Chief Anthony J. Ferrara announces new Bristol traffic ordinances effective Sunday. Each violation carries an numbered tag, with no changes or returns once issued. The program includes a police court for repeat offenders and restrictions on parking, one way streets, horns, hitchhiking, and hydrant proximity.
About 69 of roughly 1000 aliens registered in three days at the post office between 9 am and 5 pm. Form AR 1 temporary application is available at the post office. Registration is compulsory for all aliens over 14, with fingerprints and penalties up to 1000 dollars fine and six months imprisonment for noncompliance.
The Defiance Hose Company will host its annual clambake at Garcia's Farm on Narrows Road. Chowder serves at noon and the bake opens at 3 pm led by bakemaster Joseph Honey Marshall. Committee includes Charles Fales as chairman and members Eugene Heibecker Edward McCallum Manuel Lopes Eugene Byone and Arthur Manchester ex officio.
The 4th Annual Police Ball will be held at the Bristol Casino on Thursday October 24 from 9 p m to 1 a m. Capt William I Baker Jr chairs the general committee with Joseph Texeira as vice chair and Sergeants William T Cashin Euclid J Demars as secretary and treasurer. Police Chief Anthony J Ferrara heads the program reception and floor show with Henry J Silvia Jr handling publicity and tickets.
The Countryside and Bristol Garden Clubs enter Class 3 for Zinnias at Barrington Flower Show to be held today tomorrow and Sunday at Barrington School gym. Proceeds go to St Andrew's School. Judges include Mrs Perry and Mrs Bernard Jr with chairlady Mrs Terrell. exhibit features hats covered in flowers tomorrow at 3 pm. Edmund S. Rex leads Bristol Committee for Destroyers to Britain urging residents to sign petitions. No paid workers. movement costs under five dollars. Petitions available at multiple local shops and the Legion Home from Aug 31 to Sep 4. Signatures required to show strong local support for sending destroyers to Britain.
Bristol harbor will host the 40th annual open regatta of the Bristol Yacht Club with hundreds watching. The Cruising Class starts at 2 10 p m, followed by Class A and B at 2 15, then other classes every three minutes. courses span 2.5 to 17 nautical miles. The Regatta Committee is chaired by J Peter Geddes and includes six members who will judge, start, and award prizes. A dance at the Yacht Club runs 9 p m to midnight.
Town Council President J Floyd Huestis accused a local paper of unfair reporting over a sidewalk project on Hope street north of the town bridge. He said the aim is cost savings and to keep 25 WPA workers busy, noting the tar path would avoid tree removals and that the state highway funds would cover costs.

Ten thousand pounds of knitting wool shipped to Britain by the British War Relief Society to keep civilians in air raid shelters busy during raids. The shipment carries 3387 cases weighing 34 tons to Scotland and England and includes used clothing and medical supplies for refugees and bombed-out civilians.
General Chairman John P. Marshall reports plans for a major Republican bake held at Minturn Farm Metacom Avenue Bristol. Acceptances include Governor and Mrs William H Vanderbilt and other state officers and spouses. Elton Pierce of town to prepare the bake, heir of longtime Hornbine bake master Silas Pierce. Event set for Sunday afternoon September 8.
