Manuel Fernandes received the James Holmes Memorial Award as outstanding senior boy on Bristol playgrounds during awards day on the common. Eileen Borges won the Gladys M Brightman trophy for outstanding senior girl, while other trophies honored juniors and beginners with 155 awards and certificates presented to about 100 children.

Herm Grabert 19 year old right handed first baseman from Bristol was the runner up for Rookie of the Year in the Class D Georgia Florida League. He hits around .283 with 63 RBI 21 doubles nine homers and 15 steals. Grabert belted three homers on May 31 against Fitzgerald as Albany Cards won 15 4.

Dozers Clinch Bristol County League Title In Narrow Win

The Bristol Dozers defeated the Pipers 8 6 to 5 to claim their second straight Bristol County Little Bigger League championship. Ray Moertins John Burke and Foxy Marshall contributed key hits as the Dozers built a lead before Ralph Larson slugged a two run double for the Pipers late. Women to Tour Shrine and Gardens on Roxbury Pilgrimage

More than 100 women members and guests from the Pyramids of Charity Women’s Club will travel from Bristol and Greater Boston to the Mission Church Shrine of Our Lady of Help in Roxbury Mass on a Sunday excursion. The day includes Rosary and Benediction, a tour of the renovated Shrine, a visit to Boston Public Gardens swan boats and wildlife, dinner at Petroni’s, and return by 9 pm. Mrs Dominic Vitello leads reservations and Mrs Vasta L. Ruggiero is general chairman.

Bristol Office Closure Sparked by Bus Fare Complaints

Mrs. Brightman and Rep. Alfred Brightman oppose the shutdown of the state employment security office in Bristol announced by Thomas H. Bride. They recall the office’s 1949 establishment and note rising bus fares and long Warren commutes hurt unemployed residents. The Bristol office will operate Thursdays only for claims, with staff reassigned to Warren, as job placements drop.

Rites Held For W. H. Angevine in Bristol

Bristol honors former town treasurer William H. Angevine at St. Michael's Church after his death in a Warren Nursing Home. A 19 year public service record includes leadership roles in public aid and unemployment relief. Burial followed at Juniper Hill Cemetery. Angevine, born April 29 1879 in Brooklyn, had resided in Bristol 47 years.
