Maxim Truck Favored By Purchasing Committee

The Maxim Motor Company of Middleboro Massachusetts bids 6875 for a 500 gallon triple combination pumper for Bristol to be used by De fiance Company. Final acceptance hinges on an inspection as bids from Seagrave Corporation and Mack Company were rejected for late or noncompliant filing.

Change Expected At Local Ration Board

A reduction of paid staff at the local ration board is expected this week though no changes had been made by morning. Captain Paul A. Herzig, local OPA chairman, said Frank L. Martin the State OPA director notified that within the week some staff would be told their services are no longer required. Four paid workers are at the local board.

Second Clean-up Week Set for Sept 3 to 8

Highway Department designates September 3 to 8 for the second monthly Clean-up Week. Highway Surveyor Richard Connery notes rubbish collection runs separately from the salvage paper drive on September 9. South of Church street is cleared first, then north, with outlying districts Friday or Saturday. Containers should be curbside and small enough for one man to lift.

Local Veterans Office Names Bertram Wall Executive Secretary

Bertram W Wall of the Local Veterans Office is appointed executive secretary for a temporary veterans center to be set up at 539 Hope Street. The center will operate 9 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 5 pm daily with Wall allotted 100 dollars monthly for clerical help space and his time. If caseload warrants adjustments to schedule or location may follow. Wall has aided veterans and families previously with a tally of cases including death claims 13 insurance 3 allotment 8 WWI widow pensions 2 GI Bill 5 mustering out pay 1 parents pension 1 veterans pensions 2+ interviews and calls.

Kearney Unit Marks Twenty Fifth Anniversary Celebration

A large gathering of American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary members from across the state joined Kearney Post Unit to celebrate its 25th anniversary at the Post Home. The program featured welcome remarks by President Helen A. Condon, a unit history read by Mrs. Hope Moote, tenor solos by Vernon A Gray, and messages from department and district leaders. A buffet supper with blue and gold decor preceded dancing by Migliori's orchestra, with a committee headed by Mrs. Elizabeth Goulart organizing the event.

Halsey DeWolf Howe son of Wallis E Howe will be ordained to the Deaconate by Bishop James DeWolf Perry of Rhode Island Saturday at 10 30 a.m. in St Michael's. Canon Parshley will present him for ordination. The sermon will be preached by D Sherman E Johnson of the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge.

Pawtucket man dies at Mt Hope Diner while on repair trip

Joseph E. Leveille of Pawtucket an employee of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company died suddenly Friday noon at the Mt Hope Diner in Bristol where he was taking lunch during telephone line repairs. Mrs. Arthur J. Duffy alerted the proprietor and Wally Wallender aided in first aid before Dr. William L. Serbst arrived. The Rev Michael L. Ryan administered last rites.
