Computer study debunks salmon navigation myth
URI researchers Dr Saul Saila and Raymond Shappy used a high speed digital computer to simulate salmon migration from sea toward home streams up to 1,000 miles away. The model showed return journeys do not require true navigation or precise compass direction, challenging long held assumptions about fish orientation.
