Red Cross life saving tests end with many pins awarded
Seniors and juniors received 37 Red Cross pins at the Community Bath House harbor foot of Burton Street after a week of life saving tests directed by Clarence O Anderson of the Providence Y MCA with help from Almond White and George MacDonald. Awards followed detailed demonstrations of 14 minute prone resistance and rescues plus complex carries and dashes. George Jo O Brien noted the bath house may stay open another week if weather permits.

Community playgrounds close season with games and pageant
Local playgrounds host a week of activities including volleyball games between Callan and Common teams, badge tests with a retake for those failing last month, and a large pageant titled The Mother Speaks. Over 100 children participate with Theresa Sullivan and Marion Jones leading. Closing day next Saturday features athletic sports on the common.

K of C Clam Bake Under Bristol Council
The first annual clam bake by Bristol Council No 379 K of C will be on Labor Day at State Street grounds. Chowder and clam bake starts 4 30 with free dancing in the afternoon. Tickets sell until the Thursday before Labor Day. William Manchester will bake the clam dish.

Colt Memorial Ambulance Drive for Funds Planned
The Colt Memorial Ambulance in Bristol seeks community support with a two day fund drive this Friday and Saturday. Since 1917 the service has operated at a yearly outlay around $1 750.80 with help from National India Rubber Company and local town and board efforts.

Bristol man Joseph Boothman drowned near Warren shore
Joseph Boothman 55 formerly of Pawtucket was found drowned on the shore south of the Warren line last Saturday afternoon by Alton Tanner of Warren who had been clam digging. Bristol police and medical examiner ruled accidental drowning. Boothman had been a gardener in Bristol Highlands and was staying at the Bristol Hotel. Funeral held at 11 near Trinity Church with interment in North Cemetery.

A large delegation from Burnside Lodge No 34 Knights of Pythias and Edgehill Temple No 3 Pythian Sisters attended the State Field Day in Newport Beach. The group traveled by auto caravan from Providence via Warren, arriving at 2 o'clock. The program included a shore dinner and athletic events with Fred W Macauley representing Burnside Lodge on the arrangements committee.
