Annual Lawn Festival Opens for St Elizabeth’s Parish Benefit

The fourth annual lawn party on Wilson's Lane opened Saturday evening to support St Elizabeth's Church. More than 800 attended as booths and a Catholic Club Orchestra provided music. A street parade featured the Dom Luiz Felippe Society, King Philip Fire Company, and Bristol Troop of Boy Scouts led by the King Philip Fife and Drum Band.

Almeida pleads not guilty in bicycle larceny case in Fifth District Court

Manuel Almeida, charged with larceny of a bicycle from Willard F. Usher on Aug 5, appeared before Judge F. H. Hammill. He entered a not guilty plea and the case was continued one week. Several civil cases were continued or decided, and a special Sunday session found three men guilty of reveling, each fined $3 plus costs totaling $8.20.

Longtime National India Rubber official resigns for Conshohocken post

Frank B. Wilson, after nearly 30 years with the National India Rubber Company, will leave the local factory after the annual inventory to take a similar role with Lee Tire and Rubber in Conshohocken Penn. He plans to move his family mid September.

Naval war game fleet heads to sea from Newport

The Atlantic fleet left Newport Saturday afternoon and evening to engage in a naval war game. The enemy jet is led by Admiral Henry T Mayo and is expected to depart between five and six. Defenders include battleships, 15 submarines, and three destroyer divisions under Read Admiral James M Helm.

Pupil Parade Supports Colt High School Principal

About 50 boys and girls marched with banners and drums in support of Wallace R. Brown the Colt Memorial High School principal who has been asked to resign by the School Committee. The demonstrators carried banners with bold messages and cheered Brown before disbanding. Brown plans to resume his duties when school opens next month.

Mixed doubles tennis draws crowd at Bristol Casino

At Bristol Casino on Saturday a good sized crowd watched four mixed doubles matches. Nelson and Hamill defeated Barton and Church 6-1 6-3 in the first round. Howe Jr and Van Wickle beat Dimond Jr and Trotter 6-1 6-3 in the second round. Barrows and Case defeated Congdon and Howe 6-4 3-6 6-4. Nelson and Hamill also beat Walls Howe and Congdon. John Lewis and Helen Bogert defeated Williams Jr and Howe 6-1 6-3, with Hamill and Nelson advancing to the semi finals for 4 pm.

Funeral services for Parker W. Miller private in Troop B RI National Guard, who died at Paso on Aug 13, were held at his Warwick home attended by over 200 relatives. Varnum Continentals escorted, with RI National Guard and Troop B representation. Clergy included Rev J P Conover of East Greenwich and former St Luke's rectors.

School Committee Reviews Advent Church Property Fight

At a special meeting Friday the School Committee discussed securing the Advent Church property. Attorney Lavander began condemnation steps. remodeling was halted. Michael Turillo, who bought from Fon Temple Drury for 1400 dollars, engaged Joseph Hammill as counsel amid possible legal entanglements. Work halted after sills installed and timber delivered for raising the building.
