Vets to Get Terminal Leave Pay Data in Advance

Bristol veterans will receive a circul ar from B W Wall executive secretary of the Veterans Retraining and Reemployment Committee. The circular urges photostatic copies of discharge be prepared to speed applications for Terminal Leave Pay. Applications will be distributed at the Post Office after Septem ber 15 and must be filled in by typewriter or ink and notarized. Service period is September 8 1939 to September 1 1946.

Car Crash on South Main Hospitalizes Two In Warren

Sunday night on South Main Street Warren a car driven by Walter Diaz struck Frank Mello and injured his brother John Mello and their mother Mrs Mello. Frank was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. John escaped serious injury and was checked at the scene. Victorious engagement of Victoria E Santo to Richard Stubbs also noted.

Second Concert To Be Held Tonight At Colt Memorial High

The second band concert, postponed from Aug 13 due to weather, will be held tonight on the Colt Memorial High School facade. James J Velleca chairs the local arrangements, with Dr George H Baldwin directing for the Rhode Island Department of Education. Butterfield's Band performs a varied program including Il Guarany, Vienna Woods, Traviata selections, A Hunting Scene, Stars and Stripes, William Tell, Chocolate Soldier pieces, Prince of Pilsen, and The Stars Spangled Banner.

Secretary Langello Visits Bristol Family Before Returning Aboard

Former Bristol secretary to President Charles J Langello USN visited Mr and Mrs John Langello at 96 Union Street on Sunday then sailed back to Quonset Point aboard the USS Williamsburg where he serves as personal secretary to President Truman. He will resume duties in Washington at the White House with the Naval Aide to the President after the vacation cruise ends.

Fireworks End Two Day Religious Observance

A large crowd attended a two day Blessed Sacrament celebration at the Castle on Pappasquash Road ending with a fireworks display Sunday night. The event featured processions, multiple concerts by the Santo Cristo and Portuguese Independent bands, a church service and Benediction, with officials and parish members participating.

Y Announces Fall Gym Schedule At Bristol YMCA

At a Bristol YMCA Athletic Committee meeting on August 15 the fall gym schedule was adopted. Grammar School boys train Monday Wednesday Friday at 330 pm. Junior High on Tue Thu 330 pm and Sat 930 am. High School evenings Mon Wed Thu and Fri 5 to 7 pm with additional Saturday 12 noon to 5 pm. Seniors and business men use gym Mon Wed Thu Fri 5 to 7 pm and Sat 12 to 5 pm with a Mon volleyball league 7 to 10 pm. Bristol Scout Honored For Work In Indian Craft

Senior Patrol Leader Richard K. Belmore of the First Bristol Troop BSA received an award from Mr M Haffenreffer for outstanding Indian craft and dancing during a Sunday pageant at Camp Yawgoog. Belmore led the Pipe Dance as Medicine Man with several companions assisting. judges and plans for upcoming Bugle and Drum Corps contests at Guiteras field were announced with many corps invited from surrounding states.

Officer Candidate School graduate Harold S. Roland receives bronze star

2d Lt Harold S. Roland and 41 other graduates completed Officer Candidate School at the RAF Military Training Center in San Antonio Texas. The Bristol Rhode Island native wife at 131 Bradford Street attended the August 17 ceremony at Pdst Chapel. Roland served 30 months with the 12th and 15th Air Forces in the European Theater earning the Bronze Star and three European Theater battle stars.

Nebraska girl rises to Lord Vestey and back home

Evelyn Bradstone later Lady Evelyn Vestey rose from Superior Nebraska to direct Vestey Meat Packing in Chicago and London earning $250000 yearly. She funded Superior hospitals and Lincoln Park additions, built a hospital and a park, and supported scholarships and a park gift after marrying Lord Vestey in 1924. Her ashes were sent back to Superior.
