Byfield School Lease Approved and New Programs Planned
The Bristol School Committee approved a one year lease for the Byfield School paying $16,000 to St. Mary’s Church for use of twelve rooms. Joseph Kinder called the figure an all costs estimate and said it matches annual janitorial and maintenance expenses at other Bristol schools. The church will handle fire insurance and depreciation. the district covers janitorial trials and minor repairs after school starts. If costs exceed $16,000, the church pays the difference. The lease is described as an emergency measure, not long term. The building will be fully used, with clocks and new furniture installed before September. The committee also approved an industrial arts cooperative training program to prepare juniors for industry, with a mixed schedule of academic and industrial arts courses in the morning and work in local industries in the afternoon. The plan aims to connect classroom work with actual employment and avoid pseudo-work experiences.
