Recreation Director Anthony Agatiello and staff guided 353 Bristol children on a 13 hour trip to Fenway Park to watch a Red Sox doubleheader. The day featured a Red Sox twin victory a playground intermission spitball battle two sprained ankles and three boys lost. The event had been shifted from a single game to a doubleheader causing some confusion and misdirection among the youngsters.
Wage increase of 10 cents an hour for 1137 Bristol plant employees approved by U S Rubber Company and CIO Rubber Workers Union in New York. The nationwide accord covers about 35 000 workers under a wage reopening clause valid through next spring. Bristol local 339 had considered a strike to back a 25 cent package including hospital and surgical insurance, which was not included in the current agreement.
The Bristol Dozers face the Bristol Pipers at Guiteras Field on Tuesday August 19 at 6 00 p m to decide the Bristol County Little Biggers League championship. Proceeds benefit the Legion tournament expenses and Coca Cola Co may present the trophy emblematic of the state title.
The Kearney Post junior Legion baseball squad, state champions, travels to Torrington Connecticut for a 12 15 p m kickoff against New York State champions in the Legion regional playoffs. If they win Saturday they meet another Northeast winner Sunday and could advance to regional finals in Pittsfield Massachusetts en route to the national finals in Denver Colorado. The team departed at 9 this morning for Waterbury to stay at the Kingsbury Hotel as Girl Scouts sell travel fund tags.

Contributions listed include Ezra Dixon Ringside Tavern Napoleon Gauthier Hollywood Cafe Bristol Council Knights of Columbus Anthony S Thomas Family Cleansers Larrys Sunoco Supreme Ice Cream DaPonte Bros Farm Mr and Mrs Ferris John Sylvia D Lewis Tom Campagna and others with more to be announced.
The Bristol Narrows Improvement Association hosts a Sunday 1 p m water festival with exhibitions by the Swimming Mercers Carl Faith Hope Bob and Aletha a Red Cross water safety demo by Carl Y Slader a rescue display by the Bristol Rescue Squad and various aquatic acts Proceeds go to support children s activities in the Narrows area and to promote water safety Refreshments will be available and all are invited to attend
Fall River All-Stars edged Bristol 4-3 to eliminate Bristol from regional playoffs at Plymouth. Bristol outhit 6-5 but stranded seven runners as Hank Velleca and Fall River’s Quinn settled after a rough first inning. Velleca’s fifth inning wild throw and Tom Arruda’s single produced the decisive run.
The Bristol County Voiture No. 1188 Forty Hommes at Chevaux will nominate and elect officers next Tuesday at 8:00 PM in the Kearney Post Home dugout on Franklin Street. Walter C. Walander will preside and urges all voyageurs to attend. Plans for the Promenade Nationale in New York will be made, followed by a social hour with refreshments.
Donations fund The Kingsmen Bugle & Drum Corps to attend the American Legion National Convention in New York August 23 to 27 1952. Contributions may be delivered or mailed to The Kingsmen NY Fund at 62 Franklin Street. A total of 362.61 has been raised toward 750.00 needed. one week remains to raise 387.49.
The Kingsmen Bugle and Drum Corps head to Marion Massachusetts for a town centennial parade at 2:00 p.m. after a Scout Hall meeting at 11:00 a.m. They will rehearse Sunday at 11:00 a.m. and travel to Appanaug for a Warwick Drum and Bugle Corps sponsored contest. Additional drill rehearsals are planned nightly next week for the New York convention.
Bristol Planning Board after months of hearings selects a 75 acre tract along Metacom Avenue and Gooding Avenue for industrial rezoning. The board will recommend to the Zoning Board of Review, meeting tonight, that the area be rezoned and signal willingness of landowner Mrs Agnes S Mahoney of 139 Metacom Avenue to consider selling to industrial buyers. Other local owners have shown favorable reactions and the plan moves toward final action.
The committee announces a two day festival at St Elizabeth's Church starting Saturday at noon with salvos at Rego's Farm and a parade on Wood Street. A 7:30 p.m. Benediction and band concert follow, then Sunday includes solemn Mass and religious processions with Holy Angels Sodality and Holy Name Society participants.
