School Committee Elected Harder Sub-master at Colt Memorial
Albert Joseph Harder a Holy Cross College graduate class of 1915 was elected sub-master of Colt Memorial High School at the regular meeting. He will begin in September. salary set at 1100 yearly. Resignations of four grade teachers were accepted and replacements chosen from Rhode Island State Normal School graduates. Superintendent DeCoudres reported Colt Memorial High School approved for 1918 and noted state aid rules. Remodeling contracts awarded, chimney extension completed, new heater installed, and war conditions limit nonessential repairs. Night Blooming Cereus At Blithewold Conservatory Draws Crowds
Over 300 blossoms are expected this week at Blithewold Conservatory Ferry Hill the 17 year old night blooming cereus cared for by James A Bosworth. The plant blooms only at night emitting a strong pleasant odor with white flowers and yellow centers.

Bristol Boy Wounded in Action July 19 in World War I
Bugler John Hassett of Bristol, formerly of the town and now living in Providence, was severely wounded in action on July 19. His War Department telegram to his mother notes the injury with no further details. Hassett enlisted 1917 in Boston, served with the 23d Infantry, and later with the Bristol Train of Artillery before joining the infantry in France. PMID: 0

Federal Food Administrator Alfred M Coats announced prosecutions for further violations in town after 30 storekeepers were warned to cut prices. Stores were found profiting up to 30 cents per flour bag and two cents per pound on sugar, well above permitted margins.
