Mill Overseer Ends Life at Cranston Worsted Mills
Lewis W. Fisher age 60 overseer of the carding room at Cranston Worsted Mills died by inhaling illuminating gas at the Revere House 9 Church street where he had boarded seven years. He closed the gas jet and lay across the bed partially clothed. Dr. O R Siegel declared death due to gas inhalation with personal crisis intent. Funeral set for 5 PM tomorrow at Graham Home Chapel Providence.

Nineteenth Company Examines Bristol Recruitees
Suzman and family delivered gifts to the Nineteenth Company at Fort Rodman after the federal physicals. Nineteen men were discharged for failing to meet standards, with a Bristol recruiting office planned to fill those vacancies. The company now has 100 men and three officers, with most sworn into federal service. Regular drills began yesterday.

Exemption Pleas Rise as Board Considers 250 More Men
During a three day session at the Y M C A gym Bristol district exemption board noted 27 men examined and 35 physically fit men no exemption claims. The first two Bristol natives passed physical exams with no exemption claims Joseph L Duffy and Philip C Morris. A long list of men from Bristol Middletown Jamestown Tiverton Portsmouth Little Compton and Block Island were noted as having passed physicals but claimed exemptions for family or employment reasons. The board will summon 100 next Tuesday Wednesday Thursday then 50 on the last day with 8 more physically fit and not claiming exemption. Bristol shows the highest alien percentage in the district at 62 percent followed by Barrington 47 Warren 34 and Middletown 38. A public list of 60 men who passed physicals but claimed exemptions was released by War Department listing each man and exemption reason.

Alleged Embezzler Charged in Tiverton Tax Scene
William Williams Tiverton tax collector faced three new warrants for embezzling 697.29 dollars as he appeared in Newport First District Court and pleaded not guilty. Attorney General Rice swore out the warrants, while the earlier charge was dismissed.
