Light voter turnout marks special state election in Bristol

Bristol ballots total 531 by 1 15 p m with 285 in the Second District and 246 in the First. Only 108 of the voters were women. Polls at the Bristol Train of Artillery armory and Reynolds School saw little morning activity as candidates faced a dull election with few party distinctions.

Obituary of Clara Medora McCaw

Clara Medora McCaw 82 Bristol native and widow of Dr. William J McCaw Providence physician died yesterday at her niece’s summer home in Bristol. She born October 5 1851, attended local schools, lived in Providence four years, and belonged to Gaspee Chapter DAR. Survivors include sister Miss Carrie P Church Pasadena California and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial in North cemetery.

Narrows Residents Seek Water Service Extension

Y M C A Campaign Fund Reaches 3200 Likely To Exceed 3500

The Y M C A campaign finished with 3200 subscribed and three or four large gifts still outstanding, pushing the total toward 3500. Dr Alfred M Merriman praised the effort though the 5090 goal was not reached, noting strong support and potential for more contributions. Ice cream and cake were served after. New Gray Stone Retaining Wall Earns Wide Praise

Residents and visitors laud a new gray stone retaining wall along Hope Street in the business district. The wall runs from State to Court streets, sits about three feet back from the curb, and rises two feet above the sidewalk, with cement cappings for potential iron rails. ERA workers and Highway Surveyor James Holmes recently completed a new cement sidewalk in front of Buffington Pharmacy, with plans for further sidewalks along the block funded by abutting property owners.

Black Maria owned by F B Wall wins the July series final at Bristol Yacht Club, finishing 41 seconds ahead of Pappoose owned by Fd Leahy on a 4.75 mile race from the clubhouse around Mount Tom Buoy. Final standings list 11 boats with Black Maria at 40 points and Pappoose at 35.
