Fifth District Court Ends Busy Session with Fines and Appeals

Judge Frank H. Hammill presided over a full docket yesterday. Sailor Joseph Yellen was fined 15 dollars plus costs for speeding when his car hit a bus at Hope and State streets. Walter A. Lyman was found guilty of non support and sentenced to six months at the State Workhouse with a 500 dollar bail for appeal, which was filed. An appeal was taken in the Connery versus DeCosta case, with similar six month State Workhouse sentencing and 500 dollar bail. A Sunday special session fined Ricardo Olivia 27 dollars total for parking all night, driving without a license, and unregistered vehicle, plus costs.

Swimming Instructions At Public Bath House

Battery C Home From Camp at Fort Wright

Battery C 243rd Coast Artillery R I N G returned Saturday afternoon from two weeks of camp duty at Fort Wright Fisher's Island New York. Commanded by Capt Ray S Black with Lieutenants Albert A Moren and James J Garvin the unit numbered 62 men and traveled from New London Conn to Providence by train with other companies and by trucks from Union Station Providence. They worked hard in drills but found time for baseball and other recreation and will pause drills for indoor armory drills starting Aug 2.

Tennis Drawings Set For Excelsior Club event

Tomorrow at 8 p m the Excelsior Tennis Club holds drawings for the men’s singles and women’s singles in its annual tournament. The event at Hotel Belvedere precedes the start next Saturday August 9. A full player list will be posted on the courts and interest centers on the War Trotter cup for men and the R W Nelson cup for women.

Edward Ferreira aged 13 of 13 Roma Street St Josephs Hospital Providence suffered head injuries in a collision on Hope Street Bristol Neck Saturday morning. The Ward Baking Co truck driven by Vincent S Kelly of Providence collided with Manuel Texeira's Newport bakery truck. Ferreira was in the Texeira vehicle.
