Rotary Club of Bristol Holds First Annual Mt Hope Farms Outing
The Bristol Rotary Club hosted its first annual outing and clam bake at Mt Hope Farms overlooking Mt Hope Bay Tiverton and Portsmouth. About 50 attendees enjoyed clam chowder and a 1 pm meal, followed by races including a 100 yard sprint won by Ed Leahy after Bob Getchell stumbled. Words describe a light hearted program with games and prizes amid a breezy bay setting.

Man Arrested for Non Support in Providence Case
Manuel DeCosta of 582 Wood Street was arrested by Providence police yesterday afternoon on a Bristol police warrant charging non support of his wife and children. The warrant, issued on the complaint of Samuel J. Connery Public Aid Director, led to arraignment last evening with bail set at $500 for Monday Fifth District Court appearance.

Bristol Assessors Fix Tax Rate At 2.48 For Real Estate
Bristol assessors filed their annual tax report with the Town Clerk. Real estate and tangible personal property are taxed at 2.48 per 100, intangible personal property at 40 cents per 100. The rate is 2 cents higher than last year and the highest since 1926. Revaluation was needed due to large town appropriations and limited new property. Exemptions for World War veterans and widows reduce taxable values by 73,400 and taxes by 1,350.64. Largest taxpayer is United States Rubber Company of New Jersey at 58,904.96. Taxes due by October 1 with 7 percent interest thereafter.

Sailors Arrested After Drunken Driving Crash
At 3 45 this morning a car carrying two sailors from the U S Ship Vestal crashed into a tree before the Reynolds Homestead on Hope Street Bristol Neck. C D Keller and A C Barry from the Vestal were arrested. Keller faced a DUI charge and Barry a drunkenness charge.
