Edward J Walsh a Providence College senior and son of former Town Council President James J Walsh swam 4 1 2 miles from the Community Bath House at Burton Street to Sand Point Prudence Island in 3 hours 10 minutes. A rowboat manned by Matthew De Martino accompanied him as the long distance feat tops this season’s town events.

Man Guilty of Animal Cruelty in Providence Court
Manuel Botelho of Metacom Avenue was found guilty in the Superior Court, Providence, of cruelty to animals and ordered to pay $100 in two counts. John A Hawthorne of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals testified the defendant built dead fall traps with cooked meat, causing prolonged suffering before death. In a prior May ruling in the Fifth District Court Botelho was jailed for three months for cruelty to animals, and the appeal revealed multiple dogs killed by the traps.
