Manuel Botelho of Metacom Avenue was found guilty in the Superior Court, Providence, of cruelty to animals and ordered to pay $100 in two counts. John A Hawthorne of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals testified the defendant built dead fall traps with cooked meat, causing prolonged suffering before death. In a prior May ruling in the Fifth District Court Botelho was jailed for three months for cruelty to animals, and the appeal revealed multiple dogs killed by the traps.
