Wood Street Park gets loan from common for court
Wood Street Park Association has secured loam from the common for a new basketball court at the park site. Gerald C. Aldrich and E. Hugh Holmes announced the donation of roughly 150 cubic yards from the common, with equipment and costs covered by recreation funds. Joseph Riccio oversees the project along with Holmes as work begins, following prior volunteer efforts to clear a suitable playing field after a youth injury.

Board Grants Petition For New Parochial School
A four member Zoning Board granted the petition of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church to construct a parochial school at the north jetty corner of State and High Streets with a front yard of nine feet six inches and a rear yard of ten feet. The approval includes conditions for plan alterations to meet building codes, cyclone fences on the north and east sides, and that those fences be erected before classes start. The project, a brick building with four classrooms on the first floor and two more on the second, is scheduled to be completed in 1951 with new fire exits to comply with estate laws.

Fleet Reserve Man Ordered To Report For Active Duty
Michael Cavallaro of 21 Richmond Street has been out of the Navy nine months after a 21 year hitch and has received orders to report to the First Naval District Headquarters in Boston on Wednesday August 9. If found in good physical condition he will be required to report for duty immediately. Cavallaro was a Damage Control man in World War II serving on a destroyer in Italy France and other areas.
