Elderly man rescued after long Prudence Island search
A 70 year old man Alexander Desrosier was found after a lengthy search in thick brush on Prudence Island by a party including Navy men Stanton Sizemore and Coast Guardsman Johnny Myles and a loyal dog named Cole. Despite injuries he remained conscious and clung to a berries pail until rescuers located him. coffee and sandwiches followed at Mrs Marjory Taylor's home.

Bronze Star awarded to Cpl John F Castro for Luzon action
Cpl John F Castro of 183 Mt Hope Avenue received the Bronze Star for heroic achievement on Luzon with the 37th Infantry Division in the Pacific. The citation notes his courage near an enemy stronghold on 21 February 1945 despite intense fire and a shattered telescope, as he kept firing with improvised guidance until mission completion.
