The recreation board seeks bidders for a year-old 10 by 10 foot metal raft built by Blount Marine of Warren at 750 dollars. It includes a ladder diving board and a cork coated deck. State authorities ban rafts at lifeguarded beaches, so the raft remains at the Elks’ dock as a landing float on loan until sale.

Lightships Begin Final Tow Towage Marks End of Vessels’ Service
Lightships Relief and Cross Rip left the Coast Guard Depot to be towed to Baltimore Maryland for scrapping. Sold July 8 to Hughes Brothers Co of Battery Place New York City, the ships had been in storage. Tug Crusader II arrived at 3 a.m. and secured the tow by 7 a.m.

Harbor Plan Boosted With Funds From Federal Government

Vets Home Dedication Set for Sept 11
The Rhode Island Veterans Home, a 270 bed facility, is to be dedicated by Gov. Dennis J. Roberts on Sunday September 11 at 2 p.m. Ground was broken January 23 1954. The one story building includes infirmary wards for 10 female veterans a chapel auditorium a 210 seat dining hall a physical therapy unit X ray department and an ENT clinic.
