Manny Sousa, first mate on the Prudence Island ferry, spots Eva Marie Bullock and Manuel R. Sousa wedding notice in the 15 Years Ago column of the Phoenix. Public vote funds Bristol waterfront purchase and dredging

Town taxpayers approved 13400 to buy State Street Wharf and 2000 to dredge slips at the end of Church and State streets. The pier price faced debate but was upheld by a voice vote with input from Joseph Alfred Lucien Capone and others. A harbor commission report supported access restoration, noting historic losses of water frontage and potential federal aid if publicly owned.

Changes For Industry and Shopping Center OK'd

Taxpayers endorsed two zoning changes at the town meeting third night. An industrial zone on Tupelo street was approved 193 to 53 amid opposition led by Salvatore Rossi. A shopping center on Metacom avenue passed by voice vote with only one objector. Voting for the industrial change cited plans for a George W. Dahl Co. plant. The town postponed further action on a new zoning ordinance due to an omission on Gooding avenue.
