Skiff Berths Going Fast at Rockwell Park Moorings

Thomas P Brightman announced Bristol residents can obtain one of the remaining berths at Rockwell Park public moorings. Only 29 of 41 berths left. Town Treasurer’s office handles permits with a $15 annual fee for residents and $25 for out of town boatowners. Applications due by May 15. Eligible users include sports fishermen commercial fishermen and pleasure boat owners.

Taxpayers Face Mammoth Budget At Town Meeting

Town meeting at Andrews School Monday night reviews a $1,456,906.84 warrant with $1,239,671.84 in operating funds and $199,000 planned borrowing for road and sewer projects. Budget committee proposes $1,309,610 aimed at Mt Hope Avenue work and a Bristol plant survey, with all resolutions to be decided by paper ballot.

Brown University to sell seven lots on Haffenreffer grant

Brown University received Planning Board authorization to sell seven lots on the Haffenreffer grant property pending full plat drawings and a public hearing. The university plans no construction until all seven lots are sold, with utilities installed prior. The 24 acre Pokanoket Farm Plat includes 15 lots. two cannot be sold yet due to perc tests. Revenue from sales would fund area development. Streets to remain private with no public water access.

Redevelopment meeting for Hope Street block draws 25 attendees

A Harriet Bradford Inn session on the proposed Hope Street block redevelopment drew 25 tenants, businessmen, and spectators. James St Angelo led the discussion proposing a parking lot and block clearance except a new library, with a future Chamber of Commerce report and possible votes on the project or a parking area.

Quito Recovering From Injuries After Boat Accident

Peter R. Quito, operator of Quito's Shellfish Co., is recovering at Newport Hospital after an accident off Gould Island. His clothing was caught in the Hattie M. propeller shaft, causing serious cuts and bruising to his right side. Navy corpsmen treated him in the lower bay area before transfer.

Awards Feature League Banquet at YMCA Volleyball League

The YMCA Industrial Volleyball League held its annual banquet last night at the Midway. Master of ceremonies Anthony DiPietro, introduced by Hector Massa, honored four teams with trophies including the Ascoli Bros three legged trophy to BMC for a second year, and the Riccio Engineers championship trophy to the Bristol Manufacturing team. Special awards went to DiPietro and Manuel Ferrara, with remarks from team reps Joe Alves Kaiser Aluminum Joe Martin BMC Ralph Cirillo and Local 1428, plus guests Michael Ferrara Norman Servant William Hynes Eugene Reynolds and Mr Riccio.
