Town Council Opens With Fire Chief And Dog Officer Elected
At the semi monthly meeting John Grabert was elected Chief of the Fire Department and Rodney Simmons won the dog officer post with three votes. Other elected officials included Samuel A Mott Arthur Manchester Donat J Gladue and John Dimond to the fire engineers board. Several resignations and appointments were noted along with land and highway concerns and permission for events and licenses.

Benefit Concert at Colt Memorial High School Auditorium
An excellent concert held Wednesday evening under the American Legion Auxiliary Kearney Unit No 6 auspices featured piano solos by Helen Schanck including Chopin and Sibelius pieces, a dramatic reading by Mrs Alice M Coughlan, tenor solos by Vernon A Gray with accompanist Mrs Cora S Anderson, and violin and cello performances by Vincent Campagna and others. The program also included soprano solos by Nora F Dwyer and a civic address by Bertam W Wall, with Girl Scouts and local musicians participating.

Bristol Yacht Club Spring Meeting Sets Season Plans
John H. Wall presided as Bristol Yacht Club met Tuesday night at the club house. With Commodore Nicholson absent, the season opening was set for May 28 and the annual open regatta for July 27. A seventh annual Saturday dances committee was formed led by Maxfield, and a sailing boat purchase committee was created. The meeting also invited US Fleet officers to Narragansett Bay May 21-28 and Warwick Yacht Club to September races.

Body Found on Shore of Pru dence Island
The well dressed man about 60 years old was found on the west shore of Pru dence Island by 10 year old resident Ernest Hail. He weighed around 1588 pounds, wore dark clothes with a red stripe, tan shoes, black silk stockings, and a black and white necktie. No pockets held identification. The body was moved to Portsmouth shore for examination by Dr Sterrs, who found no foul play indicators.

Birthday Celebration for 94th at Hope Street Home
Miss Arselia M. Babbitt marked her 94th birthday at her Hope Street residence last Saturday. Confined to bed for nearly six years, she remained cheerful and engaged in current events. Telegrams from Concord New Hampshire and New York arrived, with Bristol friends sending cut flowers and presents. Palm and carnation decorations plus daffodils framed a buffet luncheon.

Daylight Saving Time Starts In New England Sunday
Daylight saving time takes effect at 2am Sunday across most New England communities. Clocks advance one hour and stay on the schedule until September 25. The Town Council authorized the practice Tuesday night. Early risers should change clocks before bed to avoid being late for Sunday church.
