How to plant and care for rhubarb for long yields
Rhubarb should be planted 12 to 15 years of productive life. Divisions from rhizomes with at least one strong bud are planted two inches deep with the top bud below soil. Space two feet in row and four feet between rows. Plant in fertile soil with organic matter and about three pounds of complete fertilizer deep. Avoid harvest in the first year and limit to one or two light picks the second year. From the third year harvest through spring until strawberries ripen. Apply annual fertilizer in spring and after harvest, about two pounds per application.
