The Recreation Board sponsors the Seventh Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Common. Chairman Andres Vorro Jr announced the event, with Anthony Agatiello as recreation director in charge. Prizes awarded to all participants. An Egg Decorating Contest precedes the regular hunt.
School Supt. Edward J. Fitzgerald reports expanding education for handicapped children in Bristol. Tuition and transportation costs have surged from five years ago, with nearly 30 pupils now receiving services outside Bristol and transit costs rising to 44,000. The district notes 1,200 bus riders today, up from about 900, reflecting population growth and new housing. He cites a state survey and hints at budget implications if tuition is charged.
Easter Sunday services across St Elizabeth's St Michael's First Baptist Congregational Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St Mary's mark Holy Week with Holy Week rites Holy Thursday Good Friday Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday masses. St Elizabeth's lists 7 plus 11 am masses and a baptismal fire blessing. St Michael's features 7 am 11 am choral Eucharists and extensive organ works. Other churches present candlelight baptisms Easter hymns processions and solemn Masses.
Gualberto Silva announced the formation of a John L. Rego for Governor Committee with Silva as chairman. The group seeks to boost Rego for the Democratic ticket in 1964 along with 68 members and officers Raymond Rodrigues Alfred R. Rego and Jesse Sousa. Rego, director of the URI Extension Service and former state agriculture director, had been considered by Democrats in 1962.
A brush fire began at noon with two fires on Bristol Neck. One blaze at Usher Farm rear and north of Gibson Road triggered a general alarm. Samuel Willett suffered facial burns at the farm fire, per Police Patrolman Frank Brown Jr.
The fourth interdenominational Easter Sunrise Service will be held Sunday at 5 30 a.m. rain or shine at Chapel by the Sea. The roster includes Rev Joseph Kipfer, Rev Walter Swanson, Rev Charles Pigott, Rev Quin ton Ivy and Rev Hale Thornberry with a Call to Worship, readings, prayers, and a sermon titled Christ is Risen. Music features two baritone solos by Mallet and Stainer selections sung by Robert McNally. Mrs Arthur Young will play the organ.
Deborah Babbitt last year's Miss Bristol who went to the state pageant to become Miss Rhode Island will crown one of five Bristol girls as Miss Bristol 1963 Henry Correia general chairman of the Jaycees said the event will be held in Bristol.
