Fire Commissioner Albert A Edmonds announced after a weekend survey of four local stations that Bristol’s fire department lacks sufficient hose and reserve equipment. Providence lighting expert Edward Broderick told Town Councilman John P Marshall that Bristol should be classed with better lighted towns. A Friday night check of lighting by Broderick and officials noted Hope street as the town’s only fairly lighted corridor and called for a long-range program with annual street selections to avoid big rate increases. Relocating lights was also recommended to improve safety along Wood Street from St Mary’s Church to Bay View Avenue where several women were injured.

Licenseless Driver Fined In District Court
Judge William T O'Donnell fined Mariano C Medeiros 18 of Simmons Street $15 and costs after he pleaded guilty to driving without a license. Medeiros said it was his first time on the road and was later taken into custody by a State Trooper after a check revealed the lack of an operator's license. The court granted continuances in several civil cases and ordered filed bills of particulars.
