Dredge funds sought for Church Street slips project

The harbor development commission urged a $3900 water improvement appropriation at the town meeting to dredge Church and State street slips to three feet below low water and install guest moorings. Slips have silted due to storm sewer debris, risking a state pier plan and navigational issues. The request faces council misinterpretation and a pending Supreme Court suit.

State Pier Act Passes House

An act appropriating $50,000 to convert the armory pier at Church street into a public pier and an upper-bay Station for the state Division of Fish and Game passed the state House of Representatives. Introduced by Rep. Gladys M. Brightman, the bill moves to the Senate finance committee for review. The plan cites increased sport fishermen and boat owners needing water access and facilities and notes the lower cost versus a new facility.
