Offers Town State St. Pier For $13,200

Manuel Perry owner of the State Street Wharf offers the Town of Bristol an option to buy the pier for 13,200 dollars based on 50 cents per square foot from 28,898 total square feet. The offer, valid until May 1, stems from the state legislature losing interest in State Street Wharf as a state pier and follows an armory pier designation proposal.

Judge Martin Re-elected President of Bristol Historical Society

Judge Frank L. Martin was re elected president at the Bristol Historical Society annual meeting held last night in the Rogers Free Library Building. Officers and directors were elected, including Catherine Levere as vice president, Hope Cote secretary, Charlotte Young treasurer, Alice Almy curator, and Rhoda Paine chairman of the nominating committee. The board names Howard Kelly Stephen Hopkins and eta Perry as directors. committees listed with several members. Martin announced the society’s tax exempt status under federal code allowing deductions for gifts and bequests. Mrs Clifford Monahan of Providence spoke on Grandmother's China, illustrating with slides from collections in Providence and Boston.

Rotary Minstrel Show Dazzles Sell-Out Guieras Audience

A sell-out crowd at Guieras School auditorium watched the Rotary Club’s show A Biography of Man In Song under Mrs. M. Theresa Donovan’s direction. Guest soprano Elizabeth A. Baker impressed with two song groups, and Emma and Earl Rounds led varied numbers with a large chorus. The program mixed songs, skits, and light comedy, ending with The American Patrol and an encore of The Battle Hymn of the Republic.

Free Polio Clinic Dates Announced For Children

Dr. Samuel P. D. Clark announced a free polio clinic to be held next Tuesday to Thursday April 24 25 26 at Rockwell House from 10 a.m. to noon for children aged one to fourteen. The clinic will offer polio vaccine injections and a free talk with patients served in order of arrival. Dr. Joseph A. Castronovo of the Southeastern Health Unit will oversee, with Dr. Clark assisting. Authorization must be signed by a parent. Pre school cards are at the Health Unit Center. school cards were distributed and should be returned by Thursday.

Jaycee Judges Named for Junior Chamber Award

The Jaycee judges for the Junior Chamber of Commerce Achievement Award were announced today including Canon Delbert W. Tildesley rector of St Michael's Church, Dr. C Paul Bruno and Dr. D V A Capone. The award will be presented on Monday evening April 30 with eligibility of men aged 21 to 35 and a nomination coupon published in this issue of The Phoenix.

Winds of 50 mph Hit Waterfront No Damage

A 50 mph gale struck the waterfront yet caused no major damage. One 40-foot boat broke loose but was saved by owner Peter Quits and his father Albert. The Coast Guard removed the harbor tug to a quieter berth and Spar remained docked. Quito rescued his own boat, the Marcia Beth, after it broke its mooring near the freight yard. No further incidents reported.
