Birthday Surprise for Miss Wennerstrand at Central Street

Relative guests held a Sunday birthday party for Miss Queenie Wennerstrand at 2 Central street. Miss Dolly Foster and Miss Dolly Wennerstrand organized the event with pink décor and a large cake. A comedy sketch Eat em Up was presented by Miss Foster and Mrs. Stewart, with musical numbers by Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. McAleese. Chicken supper and gifts completed the evening.

Battery C 243d Coast Artillery Officers Visit Springfield

A Bristol unit of Battery C 243d Coast Artillery (H C) R I N G returned Sunday after a weekend trip to Springfield Massachusetts. Major Webster led the battalion escort while First Lieut J Everett X Clark commanded the battery with Second Lieuts Albert A Moren and B T Peck. The group toured Springfield Armory and toured local military facilities including the Howard Street Armory.

Wire Division Wins NIR Girls Bowling League Title

The Wire Division team captained by Rose Powers won the league championship with 18 points from 20, losing only one string in the tournament. Standouts included Winifred Walsh high season average 78 14 15 and Elizabeth Lynch top individual single 255. The league will award silver cups at a May 2 banquet at the Hotel Viking Newport with Josephine Campanella as manager and Elizabeth Lynch as secretary.

Fraternal Visit Planned by United Brothers Lodge to Excelsior

A large delegation from United Brothers Lodge No 400 OF will visit Excelsior Lodge IOOF this evening. A past grand degeree team will confer the initiatory degree on a class of candidates at the meeting. Bristol men will travel by automobile to Newport for the session.

Big Celebration Planned for Our Lady of Mt Carmel

Preliminary plans for a two day feast observed by residents of Italian birth and extraction in this town were discussed at a Sunday meeting in the parish hall. John Massano was elected chairman and Carmine Cavallaro secretary. A committee of officers and organizers was appointed to arrange events for Friday July 14 and Saturday July 15 with the feast on Sunday July 16.

Collision injures riders after motorcycle wreck in Bristol Neck

A motorcycle carrying Mear W Hall and Hazel McDevitt collided with a truck driven by Charles Blackman at Hope street and Gooding avenue Bristol Neck near the Casino. Hall sprained his ankle and suffered bruises, McDevitt injured her legs, both treated by Dr Alfred M Merriman. The truck occupants were unhurt. both vehicles damaged. In a separate incident Antonio Pacheco hit a sedan on Hope street near Franklin street, causing minor damage to both vehicles.

Talk on corn borer draws Bristol County Farmers’ meeting

Large attendance from Bristol Town Warren and Barrington plus guests heard talks on the European Corn Borer and White Pine Blister Rust at Defiance Hall Bristol Neck. Harry Horowitz and Hurford of the State Department of Agriculture spoke with illustrations. Prof J F Ladd of Rhode Island State College will discuss Dairying with motion pictures at the April 27 meeting.

Chess Tournament Opens at YMCA With Youth Players

A YMCA chess tournament for boys in the junior class opened yesterday afternoon. Andrew Iverson defeated John Alfred 2 0 in the opening match. Frank Corea beat Fred Gladue 3 2. John Dunbar won 2 0 against Herbert B Marino. About thirty matches are planned.

Committee sets plans for fire department hall event

A meeting of representatives from local volunteer fire companies was held at the Hydraulion fire station to discuss arrangements for the fire department hall event at the State Naval Armory on Friday evening April 27 after sub committee reports.

Two Easter Week Weddings In St Elizabeths Church

A large congregation attended two Easter week weddings in this town. John Teixeira and Angelina Martin married at St Elizabeths Church with Rev Francisco Gomes officiating. The ceremony featured family participation, an organ solo, and a reception at Roma street and Columbia Hall. The couple, both of Roma street, plan a honeymoon and reside at 15 Roma street. Both work for National India Rubber Company. A second wedding in Our Lady of Mount Marmel Church saw Miss Angelina Larisa wed to Anthony Vollaro with high mass by Rev Joseph Poja. The couple will live at 31 First street and work for Collins-Aikman Corporation mill. A community program titled The Old Maids Convention is announced for Memorial Chapel with proceeds aiding the club piano fund.

Mr and Mrs Richard Hodgkinson hosted a dinner at 31 Noyes Avenue on Saturday honoring Charles Thackery's 80th birthday. Funeral of Archibald F. Dunbar at 89 Constitution Street

The funeral for Archibald F. Dunbar was held from his home at 89 Constitution Street. Rev. James J. Goodacre led the services at the First Congregational Church. Floral tributes came from the Bristol County Gas and Electric Company and veterans groups. burial followed at North Cemetery. Bearers included members from the Spanish American War Veterans camps and local utility employees.
