School Committee Voters Advertise Bids for Colt Memorial Repairs

At Colt Memorial High School library the board voted to advertise for bids on repairs to Colt High School under Clarke Howe architects. Sealed proposals due by May 9 at 8 pm. Other actions include budget accounts, staff leave, auditorium use, summer school, and school telephones installation.

Y M C A Board Meets in Bristol Elects Holm Industrial General Secretary

The Y M C A board elected Colin T Holm, previously in Bristol as War Work Council representative, as Industrial General Secretary. They will add counselors from Portuguese and Italian communities to advise the board at all meetings. The group referred the bowling league team average reduction to the Athletic Committee and approved a contributor membership drive through May 1 to settle year end bills. The membership committee will prepare a plan for a special conference of the Board of Managers.

Elm Tree Removal and Street Widening Begin in Town

Contractor Eugene LeClair started removing large elm trees on the east side of the common under a Financial Town meeting mandate. Engineer Jewell notes rice loam will be disposed of as Wood street widening proceeds, with pricing tied to distance and team placement. Finishing Bradford street surface between Hope and Thames streets began, paving the way for work on the Hope to High street block.
