An advertisement touts bright well made ladies shirt waists at low prices and lists percales, silks, and sateen skirts. It promotes gents furnishings including shirts collars and cuffs, hosiery, and a range of spring wash goods with prices from a few cents to a dollar. The copy highlights novelty colors and trims and notes a broad line of dress goods and jackets for spring.
William H Munro allows examination of five Bristol Phoenixes from 1838 to 1854 along with copies from New Bedford Daily Mercury and Providence papers. The digitized scraps show railroads in their infancy, early telegraphy, Mexican War news, Cuban revolution alerts, and local notices plus a 1845 wedding notice in Bristol town.
Philadelphia resident John Oliver recounts his near death from severe illness. After three doctors gave up, a friend's advice to try Electric Bitters brought quick improvement. Oliver credits the remedy with saving his life and urges others to try it. Sold for 50 cents at J Ho Young & Co's drug store.
