Budget Group Recommends Record Town Budget
The Budget Committee proposed a 1957-58 town budget of 1,214,695.66 with the council adding 174,375 for sew ers and roads. Major items include 90,000 for widening Upper Bay View Ave and recovering High St, 120,000 for Sowams Drive sewer, and 30,875 for road improvements in outlying districts. Spar Returns After Fitting Out in Maryland
The cutter Spar returns to the Coast Guard Depot at 8 p.m. after three weeks at Curtis Bay Maryland for fitting out. It will join Arc ie operations this summer with upgraded hydrographic weather and electronic gear. One of three Coast Guard ships Bramble and Storis join the search for a Northwest Passage as part of a Military Sea Transport Service Arctic mission. If successful Spar will sail from Bristol May 19 toward the Panama Canal then to Alaska and east through the Arctic Ocean.

Post Office Site Change Backed by Town Meeting
Town meeting voters approved a zoning change requested by Knights of Columbus Building Assn for a new post office site on State Street. The Post Office Dept will resell the site after possession and lease back a 500 square foot building for 20 years. Dr D Angelo’s attorney Ferd Bruno argued against the plan citing noise and traffic concerns at the new location.
