Auto accident near Seekonk claims life of Mello

Michael Mello 40 of 138 Bay View Avenue was killed when the car he rode in collided with a 10 ton Navy truck at the Taunton Pike Fall River Avenue intersection in Seekonk. His brother Christo was injured and four Bristol-bound workers were treated for shock and minor bruises. The Navy crew escaped injury. Funeral arrangements set for St Elizabeth's Church.

Drive For Women War Workers Continues

The U S Employment Service of the War Manpower Commission has mailed letters and return cards to Bristol County women to recruit hundreds for local defense factories. Open offices in Warren and Bristol offer full and short shift positions and evening job clinics to discuss openings with war plant representatives.

Girl Scout Rummage Sale Plans and Camp Hoffman Award

The Girl Scout Council outlined tentative plans for a rummage sale to raise funds from the cookie sales. They will award a campership to one girl scout from each troop on a competitive basis. Final plans will be set at the May meeting. Mrs Farl Sturdevant announced Bristol Girl Scouts joined the Community Chest and listed board roles for the Scouts.

Funeral Services For Herbert B Burnham

Funeral services for Herbert Jennett Burnham of 63 Franklin Street were held yesterday at 3 PM at his home. Rev Herbert J Graetz of the First Congregational Church officiated. Interment followed in North Cemetery with pallbearers Robert McCaughey William Harrop Dr Howard Church and Benjamin Paull. Survivors include his wife Elizia Pitman Burnham and son Merbert Bo Burnham.

Benefit Fund Started for Firemen Injured Here Saturday

A Bristol benefit fund raises early donations for three volunteer firemen injured in a Saturday afternoon crash. Arthur J. Duffy of the Mount Hope Diner organized the drive, with an Industrial Trust Company Bristol branch account opened for Injured Firemen's Fund. Contributions come from individuals and local staff, including named donors and groups, with payments payable to the fund.

Firemen Injured In Bristol Crash Show Improvement

Three seriously hurt firemen rushed to Truesdale Hospital after a heavy trailer struck the Ever Ready pumper as it crossed Hope street toward a rubber scrap blaze behind the Bristol Mfg Corp plant. Francis J. Lewis, Joseph Viera, and John Viera remained critical but improved. others suffered minor injuries.
