Park Side Cafe Opens Summer Party at Village Park

Joe McCoy proprietor invites all locals to a summer opening at Village Park on Friday afternoon May 24. Free treats for children souvenirs for ladies and music by the school band. A new soda fountain has been installed and the interior redecorated. The McCoys are well known for tasty lunches and dinners and Parkade plans to carry a larger variety of popular summer foods with new equipment.

Century Since Bishop Chase Endowment Honored in Peoria

Peoria hosts a centennial tribute to Bishop Philander Chase founder of the Illinois diocese. A motor caravan pilgrim to the Jubilee College site and prayers at the bishop’s grave marked the event. Editorial columns praise Chase as a frontier builder who united religion and civic virtue in early Illinois.

Brimfield Band Concert Opens Summer Season

Brimfield marks the summer season with a village park concert Saturday night directed by Marlon Saxton who leads the band alongside his school duties. The town notes Brimfield’s long tradition of strong band performances dating back to the gay nineties and promises another fine show.

Upper grade pupils directed by Miss Norma Efnor present the operetta The King's Sneezes by Richard Atwater on Friday May 24 1935 at eight o clock. Admission 10c and 25c. Cast includes King Nicholas Queen Dorothy Princess Lucy Lisabel and many villagers and fiddlers with local students in named roles.

Mrs Wm Jones and Virginia visited Galesburg Monday while school closed for a Friday picnic. Farm Bureau plans an oil nation on Ray Douglan’s lot. 4 H bake sale set for May 25 at 10 a.m. at the Post Office. Commencement for eighth grade at Grange Hall last Thursday honored Marger Ann Chapman Betty Doubet Phylisa Biederbeck and George Taylor.

Army Worm Invasion Anticipated in State

W P Flint entomologist of the State Natural History Survey warns of a general army worm outbreak developing over the next month. The damage will be widespread though not in every county, with heavy moth flights. Farmers should monitor blue grass and small grain stands and use poison bran bait for control.

Notice that Dr. Nottings dental practice in Brimfield has relocated to Main Street. Office hours are Monday Wednesday and Saturday evenings from 7 to 9 p m. Beginning June 6 the Exchange State Bank will close at 12 o clock noon on Thursdays.

The American Legion calls all ex service men to attend a meeting on Thursday evening May 23 at the Village hall. The event aims to coordinate veterans affairs and community support efforts with local leaders and fellow members.

Mrs. Gertrude Hayden Dies in Chillicothe at 76

Mrs. Gertrude Hayden died at her home in Chillicothe from heart trouble on Friday morning May 1. Born November 1879 in Brimfield to James and Hannah Sherman, she was wife of Frank C. Hayden, who preceded her. Surviving: two sons Thomas and Mary at home, L A Hartwell of Evanston, Jr., Robert Hayden of Peoria, and one grandson Thomas Hartwell. Funeral at Chillicothe Congregational Church at 2:30 Sunday. burial in Chillicothe cemetery.

Rev Hunter Brink Buried in California

Relatives report the death of Rev Vincent Hunter Brink at his Altadena home on May 12 after long illness since his 1926 retirement. Born February 23, 1865 in Blandinsville he served in Kansas Illinois California parishes before settling in California in 1903. Funeral May 16 at Holliston Ave Church Pasadena with ministers from the conference.
