Grandmothers Honored At May Banquet

Seventy five women attended the Union church event honoring grandmothers. Yellow baskets with spirea tulips lined tables, a dinner by high school girls followed by music and readings. A humorous program featured portraits of grandmothers, with prizes for oldest, most grandchildren, and youngest mother.

Memorial Poppy Day Aims to Aid War Veterans Families

The American Legion Auxiliary urges wearing memorial poppies on Poppy Day to honor fallen veterans and support widows and orphans. Funds fund disabled veterans and child welfare, with volunteers distributing poppies through Legion and Auxiliary groups. A Mother’s Day chicken potluck at a local home brought together families connected to veterans.

Funeral service for Mrs Ira Porter Faoncralt was held at Union Church with Rev. Theo C Hargreaves officiating. Pallbearers included W Blundy, E Mulvaney, W Travis, Horace Moon, Benny De Vries, and Walter Clark. burial in Brimfield cemetery. She died Sunday morning at Elm Haven hospital after weeks of illness.

Destruction of St Josephs Church in Brimfield by Fire

Fire swept through St Josephs church in Brimfield causing about 30000 in losses. Parishioners aided by volunteers battled flames with local engines and tools, saving the rectory and nearby buildings before dawn. The church, rebuilt in 1883 under Rev Mrs Fivon, had undergone improvements and was a local landmark.

Neighbors honored bride Edith Whittaker Wagner at a Laura Camp miscellaneous shower on Saturday afternoon in May. Hostess Ailken Kalb led games after the meeting, with prizes to Selah Bodinus and Barbara Smith. Gold Star Mothers to Be Special Guests at May Meeting

Gold Star members of the Brimfield American Legion Auxiliary will host a May 27 gathering at 12 30 PM in the Legion City Room. The event includes a pot luck dinner with Gold Star mothers wives daughters and sisters of the fallen in World War II and later conflicts. A memorial program led by Mrs Gete Burder will be presented, with final venue details announced by Mrs Florence Wynn. Memorial Day services and grave decorations by Brimfield Legion and Auxiliary members are planned, along with a forthcoming Gold Star function at the state Auxiliary convention in Chicago September 10 13.

Bethany Hurder Crowned Ma Queen at Flushing High

Bethany Hurder, daughter of Mr and Mrs J A Harder, was crowned Ma Queen at Flushing High School May crowning in the Y M C A gym. The event marked the first May crowning at the school and Bethany, a sixth term senior, expressed surprise and joy. A large photo shows Bethany, granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Kudler.
