Galesburg Chorus Presents St Paul Oratorio May Ninth

Four soloists are set for the Galesburg Community Choirs performance of Mentelsasuas St Paul on May 9 at Central Congregational Church. Zern Family Invited to Naval War College Graduation

Mr and Mrs Jubr Zern received an invitation to attend the Naval War College graduation at the Naval Training Station Auditorium in Newport Rhode Island on May 1. Their son Capt R D Zern is a class member. The Marblehead, with Lieutenant Commander Richard as navigator, survived a dangerous bombing and made a safe landing despite being wrecked.

Local Social Notes From Peoria And Elmwood

Laura Items Mrs Edson Purcell visited Peoria last Thursday and Mrs Bam Dunicant called on friends here Friday. Emmet Offy and family moved to the Henry Malone tenant house. Isa Shirley Settles of Williamsfield and Neden Mca Waley Reed were seen Saturday morning. Marl Sivers and son visited Peoria for Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Donald Miller. James Kemper attended the funeral of James Donaldton. Mrs Helen Libby moved her beauty shop to Mrs Jack Hart's house. Elmwood visitors included Mesdames Vonard Miller Edward Kalb Marc Mier and James Kemper. Grange Hall event featured potluck dinner and dancing. Mr and Mrs Harvey Woolward are being transferred to Chanute Kansas.

Brimfield Musicians Shine in State Contests

Brimfield sent two students to the state high school contest. Jim Dllllvaney earned a First Division in Boys Medium Voice and Mary Ann Mularey won a First Division in Darmba with Mendelssohn Rondo Capriccioso. Judges praised both performances and noted the contests have not resumed since the war.

Mrs Mary Hasselbacher obituary ends seventy year marriage

Mrs Mary Elizabeth Hasselbacher died Sunday morning after a five day illness at St Francis des. Born December 18 1856 in Jublee township she married Ludwig Hasselbacher in 1877 and they lived on the corner for seventy years. Surviving are husband six children seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the residence and Methodist Church with hymns sung by Rol land Cady and Mildred Pacey. Burial was in Brimfield Cemetery with grandsons as casket bearers.

Peoria County Zoning Plan Sparks Public Hearings

Township hearings on the Peoria County Zoning Commission plan were held this afternoon though attendance was light. The issue rests with the board of supervisors and property owners are urged to obtain information and voice their views on whether zoning should be adopted county wide or kept local.

Poppy Day Observance By Legion Auxiliary May 20

The American Legion Auxiliary plans Poppy Day on May 20 the Saturday before Memorial Day. Poppies will be sold citywide all day to honor war dead and funds support disabled veterans and children of veterans. Poppies are made by disabled veterans and proceeds sustain rehabilitation and welfare projects.

Soft Ball Season Opens At Home With Night Game

The first soft ball game on the home diamond is set for Sunday evening with Ward's Plywoods facing Brm Field. The field has undergone extensive work and should be in fine shape for opening night. Mrs Ruswell Moon of San Juan Puerto Rico visits Illinois relatives. Mrs James Mulvaney of Peoria spent the past week with son Walter Mulvaney and family.

Disabled veterans work side by side in memorial poppy drive

Disabled veterans from both wars labor in hospitals and convalescent workshops nationwide during winter and spring. They produce memorial poppies to be distributed by the American Legion Auxiliary on Poppy Day May 29 to honor the war dead.
