Pettits Say Goodbye Before Moving To Reynolds

A large crowd gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs G W Pettit Wednesday evening to bid farewell as they prepare to move to Reynolds. The town notes a union service planned for Sunday July 4 at the school park. Prices for corn oats and wheat are listed along with butter eggs and hogs. Local happenings include the new News office location and community events at the opera house and school.

R N A Picnic At Stenger Farm

In June a party of Royal Neighbors traveled to Bessie Stenger’s home for a woods picnic. Rainy weather moved the covered dish dinner indoors in Stenger’s dining room. Guests included Jon Stenger Eck Clark and Len Porter. The dinner was delicious and enjoyed by all. A woods visit added pleasure and neighbors praised Stenger as a delightful hostess.

Donald Hayes Attends Boy's State Program in Springfield

Donald Hayes, a Junior at a local high school, leaves for Springfield to participate in the annual Boy's State event. He joins about a thousand Illinois youths at the state fairgrounds to study citizenship and government, organized by the American Legion. W F Harding and Frank Clark accompany him from the local post.

Annual Judging Contest Near Laura Peoria 4-H event at Raymond Barretts

The Peoria county 4-H fat stock judging contest will be held at Raymond Barretts location near Laura at 8 a.m. on Monday June 28. Open to club members with three live stock projects. top three become club representatives. The two winning teams advance to the state judging contest at Urbana on August 2. Also on June 28 the 4-H softball tournament occurs in the afternoon while results are tabulated.

County Home Bureau Elects New Officers

The Peoria County Home Bureau annual meeting was held at Union Congregational Church in Peoria on Wednesday June 16 with record attendance despite rain. Mrs Summer Livingston of Peoria was re elected president for the coming year and a slate of officers from Brimfield Laura Princeville Trivoli Hanna City Paradise and other locales was elected to lead major and minor projects recreation and 4 H club work.

Laura Winners 4-H Club Plans Tour and Events

Laura Winners 4-H Club met Thursday evening June 18 at the Shaffer home. Members reported weights from 310 to 980 pounds for Angus calves. Plans were made for a club float stand at the Elmore Homecoming July 3 and the county judging contest set for Monday June 28 at Raymond Barrett's. A county 4-H Show was discussed for September 1 and 2 at Laura. Bernard Cluskey and Joe Carroll shared Urbana trip notes from the Annual 4-H Club Tour. A local project tour is planned for Monday June 21 at 1 30 starting at Shaffer's, visiting Carter Kellogg Donbet and Jaques, with a neiner roast to follow in Jaques woods. At 8 p m the ball team will play Williamsfield there. Iced fruit drink with cookies served after adjournment. Reporter Robah Kellogg.

Welch family visits in Galesburg and local 4-H tour

French Grove J K Welch family made several trips to see sister Mrs Fred Wyreman in hospital at Galesburg. Laura Winners 4-H club toured homes of Shaffer, Carter and Kellogg. Illinois Short Horn Breeders sale at Galesburg drew attendees including S A Kellogg and Oakes who bought a bead. Birthday lunch at Elmwood Methodist church. Susie Clark and William B Clark plan southern visits to Salome Springs Arkansas and Newtonia Missouri.

Annual School Reunion Program Delights 105 Attendees

A large crowd of 105 picnickers from Dunlap Peoria Abingdon Brimfield Elmwood Oak Gills and East Peoria gathered at the Best school Sunday for the annual reunion. A fine program by school members and visitors followed the dinner and a happy afternoon. Highlights included a Tap Dance On a Drum Phyllis Arbogast readings Gold Mounted Guns Helen Scheeler musical selections and more performances by Marna Dean Kidden Little Old Lady Marjorie and Martha Schiots Song A Lullaby Dad's Boy Bobby Schenck Acrobatic Dance and Phyllis Arbogast among others.

Miss Bernadette Short of Sparland weds Clarence Gilman of Terre Haute Indiana in Peoria on May 29. The bride, oldest Belford Short daughter, formerly worked at the Marshall County courthouse and with the Illinois Emergency Relief Commission. The groom works at Gatton's garage in Peoria. couple to reside there.

Matilda Richards Rites Held in Pleasant Hill Area

Funeral services for Matilda Caldwell Richards, born April 5, 1866 in Brimfield Illinois, were held Wednesday at Cookes funeral home. Survived by husband John Richards, son Froma Marie and Warren Caldwell, brothers and sisters, she passed June 14 after influenza and declining health. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Paradise 4-H Club Sees June Meeting at BurCham Home

The Paradise 4 H Club held its final June meeting at Betty Bur cham’s home, with dresses checked, refreshments served, and games played. The next gathering is set for July 1 at Maxine Callister’s home, and a High School Band concert will be in H gym Friday evening July 2.

Brimfield High School Band Concert Next Friday

The postponed Brimfield High School Band concert moves to the High School Auditorium Friday evening July 2 at 7. Admission is 25c for adults and 15c for children. The band rehearses twice weekly to make up for vacation caused by illness, with two soloists Joe Blundy on Baritone and Roger Nichols on Xylophone.
