Legion Auxiliary Meeting at the Legion Ball

The Auxiliary met at 8 30 pm with a regular business session followed by doughnuts and coffee served by Caroline Pacey Lily Halle and others. The next meeting is June 28 at 8 30 pm with officer installation and plans for a trip to Peoria State Hospital on a Tuesday afternoon in July.

Elmwood unit ladies tour with state president talk

A group of Elmwood unit ladies joined a Biatric camp trip to Grive 0 Yaluut to meet State president Mrs Katherine Krogh who gave a talk. Lunch was served by Methodist Church ladies. Attendees included Harnett Rhindy Caroline Brattihe Savage Vera Powers Levine Jones Kathryn Cecn Mary Pollenberger Lily Haller Bridie Pow Kathryn Gliskey Elizabeth Exeria Myrtle Franks Muude Kliegert Pern Johnson. The ladies reported no misfortune and enjoyed the trip.

Residents Approve School Consolidation Plan in Special Election

Voters in the area approve consolidating 12 districts with 162 in favor and 74 against. The Brimfield grade school will host the new district enrollment, using Prescot rooms for extra space. Districts joining include Gilbert Gadbill Pawnhouse Scotland Maple Grove Whitten Radley Bell Shane Bramble and Golden Knoll. A meeting June 19 at Village hall 8:30 p.m. will nominate the seven member board.

Zion Church Receives Large Donation on June 15

At Zion Church on June 15 the regular offering totaled with checks and currency exceeding $60000 for maintenance. Contributions came from Florence Italy New York Pennsylvania Ohio Maryland DC and from Illinois Chicago Evanston Rockford Decatur Rimwood Jubilee Oak Hill and Peoria. Noted contributors include Thomas Lamont of New York Hon Scott Lucas Senator Louis Gromfield a movelist and writer and Dr Keith Chalmera president of Kenyon College. The pastor called Zion an orphan church with many friends.

Laura Items shows Mrs Mary Mitler of Peoria visiting her children for a few weeks. Galesburg people spent the weekend at Dan Kuntz's home. Mrs Harley Reed and Wiley visited Burt Hayward in Peoria Thursday. Mr and Mrs Merle Carter and two daughters from Tulsa are visiting relatives. Ed Jessup of Monmouth attended John Bardy funeral. Esther Miller, daughter of Harold and Mrs Miller, noted. Permilia Lassure of Peoria spent weekend with Corliss Baisure and Earl Meacham family. The Buzivant family hosted Peoria guests for Sunday dinner, then visited Maquan and Br Long.

Obituary of John A Hardy of Laura

John A Hardy son of John and Ilea Wodhull Bardy was born in Wanchester Til Oct 33 158 and died at home in June. He lived at a farm north of Laura after moving with his parents in 1872. He served as road commissioner 18 years and on the school board 16 years. He married Katie M Whitaker Mickapoo on Jan 1 1895 and lived south of Laura for 52 years. He is survived by two daughters, a brother, a grandson and three great grandsons. Funeral held at Laura Church July 16 with Masonic lodge oversight. burial in Brimfield cemetery.

The Illinois Public Aid Commission conducts these surveys to compare budgets with current costs and adjust aid for changes, relying on dealers’ cooperation to reflect typical purchasing patterns of public aid recipients.

Mrs A Kellogg Gertrude and Dorothy attended the broadcast. Mrs Barold Oakes and Marilye left for Los Angeles via New Mexico to visit her mother. Telephone service for line 45 rates top news this week after January storm wrecked lines. Subscribers include Germans McCoy Smiths and Reeda Oakes Kelloggs Snoddy’s. Dan McCoy visited with aunt Winifred Cramer and daughter Emma Jane Eastzer in Dallas and with Joe Cramer in St Louis. Sarah Elizabeth Burdon of the 1947 nursing class at Indiana University Medical Center has been initiated into Sigma Theta Tau. She earned an A B degree from Fowler University and graduated from nursing school at Bloomington. Mildred left South Bend for Elizabeth N J to work with the Tri State Conference near Port Jervis. The two Burdon daughters are grandchildren of Mrs Maney Marshall.
