More Electric Power For Farms
General Electric executive Karl H. Runkle urged farm electrification, predicting by 1965 dairy farms will use about 32 000 kWh annually at ~60 dollars monthly and that electric labor saving devices will boost efficiency. He forecast 400 percent power use growth on dairy and poultry operations by 1956 and 1975 with automatic washing, grading, cooling and storage to raise production and hatchability.

Direct Consumption Sugar From Cane Developed
A new grade of sugar for direct consumption has been produced from sugar cane by the U S Department of Agriculture scientists. The sugar is made by a process using resin exchangers to purify the juice, allowing it to be used without refining in products like candy and confections. Lab yields of cane sugar with the new process compare favorably to conventional methods, promising lower costs and adequate quality for diverse candies.
