Memorial Day Observance and Cemetery Triumphs
Memorial Day observances at the community auditorium featured Rev. R A Harris presiding with solos by Rev. W E Bradburn and Rudolph Savage. Rev. A R Laughlin delivered the day’s address at Peoria. The cemetery program included schoolchildren decorations, a brief Civil War veteran speech by Rev. R Pacey, a Legion firing salute, and taps. Cemetery supper netted 1000 dollars, a record. Rolland Griggs won the county pole vault at Chillicothe and at Stagg Field, Chicago, took first in the University of Chicago meet, a Oklahoma student placing second. he cleared 11 feet six inches to win and earned a gold watch for his trophies.
