The Files notes skating as excellent and a proposed depot on the old site with calls to arrange telephone connections to the downtown area to cut travel. It also records prices for corn oats wheat butter eggs hogs and a fire loss at John Swimm’s residence and a December 25 1597 wedding amid holiday scenes.
Mrs John Plack is hospitalized at Proctor with injuries from an automobile accident last Thursday morning. She sustained a deep cut to the cheek requiring stitches and a broken jaw. Her daughter Mrs John Libby, who drove the car, escaped injury. the car suffered heavy damage. A turkey driver at the Ray Bowman home was injured by the family on Christmas Day. Present were their three daughters and families from Peoria Elmwood and Yates City.
Mr and Mrs Chas German and guests Steve German Lester and Wendell McGonagie of 2Grincevillé visited Ben German on Monday with Mr and Mrs Frack German of Princeville also joining the calls at the German residence.
George E Metzger of the Illinois Agricultural Association reports an 8 000 member rise in Chavis and nationwide growth as 1937 set records. Plans for 1938 include 35 county one day drives ahead of the IAA annual meeting and a 100 member county quota set December 1. Peoria county adds 203 new members, now at 1 304.
Dorothy Lucille Young and Dr. David H. Morton, both of Elmwood, wed at Rew C. C Carpenter’s Peoria home on Thursday evening December 23. The couple, with five guests, will reside at the doctor’s West Main Street residence in Elmwood. Dr Morton is a longtime Elmwood physician and Mrs Young has long served as bookkeeper for the Elmwood office of Illinois Light Company.
Two golden wedding anniversaries featured in Sunday's Star include Jennie Rob inson Clark and Horace Clark of Peoria who wed in 1887 at Brimfield and lived there before opening their home at 305 Columbia Terrace for a Tuesday open house. Their sons Robert K Clark and Thomas B Clark and five grandsons congratulated them as the couple marked 63 years married and a long life in Peoria. A Berkeley California celebration is linked to former Brimfield resident James Edward Stansbury and his wife, W Adelia Morris, who were wed in November 1857 in Toulon Alabama, now marking their own golden anniversary with Thanksgiving gatherings and memories of westward travels.
Esther Miller and Frank Brockway visited Mrs. Esther Tucker for Christmas dinner, joined by the Brockways who reside in Peoria.
Christmas Day activities center on family visits as Harry Reed and wife honor Aunt Josephine Reed. W. E. Carter and family dine with his parents. Erman Kirtley and family visit Theo Biederbeck and Jess Kirtley. Fairy Carter's gathering includes C. E. Walker, C. N. Adams, and others. Glen Foster travels to Parva and dines with Ethel Foster's family. weddings include Stan Moore and Eleanor Stevens at Peora First Presbyterian Church. neighbors host dinners and extend best wishes across multiple households including the McClellans and Clark family.
Several dozen local families, including the Whitakkers, McFarlands, and Warrens, shared Christmas dinners across Laura and nearby towns. Visitors from Peoria and Galesburg joined celebrations, while Christmas lights brightened churches and streets, described as a fairy land by a traveler.

A large crowd gathered at the park Friday night for the Community Christmas celebration. Santa appeared in an old fashioned sleigh pulled by pintos, handing out candy and fruit to children amid laughter and festive cheers. Adults, including lawyers, doctors, dentists, and farmers, joined the joy as ice held for the sleigh ride.
Personal items list visits and gatherings over the holidays among the Porter, Bane, Winchester, Catton, Dawson, Finck, Vonald, and Johnson families. Mentioned travel to Davenport and Indianapolis for scientific meetings, with Edna Johnson presenting at the AAAS in Minneapolis and returning to Boulder University in Colorado.
The January meeting is at Mrs. Florence Johnsons home on Thursday January 6 at 1 30 PM. Program includes roll call on New Year resolutions a special number by Mrs. Gladys Slocum a lesson on cookies by Miss Hopier a handicraft segment by Mrs. Christian and recreation by Mrs. Pacey. Members should bring money from cook book sales. The library will be closed on Christmas and New Year s days. Last day to renew or take cat books is January.
Mr Henry Blandy, representative of the Farmers Automobile Insurance Association of Peom Illinois, announces two series of four programs on Station WMBBD Peoria at 535 p m on Friday evenings January 4 Lith 18 and 25. The Safety Short Course will highlight Motor Vehicle Code features and good driving practices for area motorists.
