Basketball Schedule Highlights Local Games This Season

The schedule lists games against Princeville Yates City Elmwood Chillicothe Glasford Dunlap Denlap Pekin Jr Varsity and Dunlap tournament. Home and away venues alternate with dates from November to February including a Dunlap tourney at end of January. Teams expected include Elmwood Princeville Yates City Glasford Chillicothe Dunlap and Pekin Jr Varsity with multiple home games at various dates.

Girl Scout Party Draws Praise From Committees

The event last Friday was a success with games and enthusiastic fans. A follow up meeting is planned for Friday December 3 with Barbara June Riggs noted as Scribe.

L Hasselbacher collects personal tax and has been appointed collector for Brimfield and Jubilee townships. He will be at the Neva office every Saturday until further notice.

The School Band Makes Fine Progress

Eveline Lind of West Jersey spent the weekend at the W H Smith home. Mr and Mrs Clifton Adams and family of Elgin were Friday callers at the home of his sister Mrs A R Moore. The A Kellogg family enjoyed a visit with Wheaton relatives Friday afternoon with Miss Robah and Anna Oakes in Chicago. A R Moore is gaining strength each day after his recent operation. Purse Restored After Peoria Store Accident

Lucille La Follette returned to her school duties after a week away due to a fall at Block and Kubl in Peoria. She lost a purse with money a ring and papers but received it back on Thanksgiving morning after Mrs Doris Young of Peoria notified its owner and a reward was paid.

Mrs Phares Celebrates Birthday at Age 92

Mrs Phares marked her 92nd birthday with two celebrations. Thanksgiving dinner hosted by Ralph Carson family featured a cake baked by great granddaughter Betty Carson. On Sunday November 28 she shared a birthday dinner with daughters Eva Fisher Nell Carson Tennery and Roy Bane.

Texas Church Chicken Supper and Bazaar Evening

The ladies of Texas Church prepare a chicken supper and bazaar tomorrow night. Suppers start at 5 o clock with tickets priced at 40 cents and 25 cents. Proceeds support church activities and community programs.

Meehan Home Destroyed By Fire

The Meehan farm residence north west of town burned at noon Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Meehan were away. Firefighters could not save the building due to water shortage and late discovery but helped save some belongings and aided nearby structures. The home is owned by Mrs. C. C. Blondy, known as the O'Hara place, and neighbors plus Brimfield Fire Department assisted.

Laura Items Mrs Don Webster attended a Home Bureau meeting in Peoria. David Wycoff visited with his father D C Wycoff in Peoria. Mrs George Morris and Mr Neva Rie shopped in Kewanee. Mr and Mrs Cliff Leach hosted Thanksgiving at the James Kemper home in Peoria area. Lois Nilroy from Galesburg stayed with her sister Mrs Claude Lorance. Don Webster family spent Thanksgiving at the Gerald Webster home near La Fayette. Leigh Beamer and Brent Sheffner of Des Moines stayed with Von Webster. Members going to Chicago for the International Live Stock Show included Charles Jaques Reed Carter Wm Jones and Cecil Bridson. Henry Kelley and children visited Olin Iowa over Thanksgiving with Mr and Mrs Joe Emerson. Surprises Mark Move to Town for Chae Ekena Family

Charney told his wife they would move to town and neighbors celebrated with a party at Caras. A birthday dinner for their mother followed, with relatives attending from the Ekena and Bruvinga families. The couple then received two chairs for the new living room before moving on Monday and settling in.

Mrs Josie Hargadine dies in Princeville

Mrs Josie Medi Hargadine passed away at her home in Princeville Monday evening after a period of illness. Funeral services are set for December 2 at 9 30 AM at St Marys Of The Wood in Princeville with burial to follow. She had been ill since visiting her sister in Dakota this fall.

Funeral for William John Woods Held in Elmwood

William John Woods born November 21, 1862 on a Yates City area farm. He lived near Yates City most of life and died after a lingering illness at his daughter Hazel Garrison's home in Trivoli. Survived by three children Mra Garrison Mabel Speer and Char lea, several grandchildren and one great grandchild. Woods earlier operated a Brimfield grocery business.

James Taylor of Peoria Dies After Long Mine Career

James Taylor a longtime Peoria resident died Sunday at his home. Born in Haywood England in 1853 he came to America early. He married Rebecca Gilyeart in Elmwood on October 10 1876. He ran a coal mine at Edwards and served as state mine inspector for years. Surviving are his wife two daughters and three sons in Peoria ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Hale Memorial church with burial in Olmwood cemetery.

The Millbrook Grange will stage the first card party of a series at the Grange hall in Laura tonight December 2. A small admission fee will be charged and everyone is welcome. A dance is planned for next week.

Basket Ball Squad Makes Fine Start

The Brimfield basketball team opened the season with a 18 to 15 win over Princeville, while the second team took the curtain with a 32 to 18 victory. On Tuesday Brimfield defeated Yates City 32 to 23, with the second team again ahead 30 to 7.
