The annual Fish Fry at Millbrook Grange will be held Friday night with serving starting at 5 39. Plates are one dollar and dinners may be delivered for a small charge. Several local residents listed attended Thanksgiving with the Bert Knights and others.
The Brimfield community invites all adults to receive a tuberculin skin test on Monday December 12 at Brimfield High School at 1 00 pm. Tests administered by Dr RB A Runde Medical Director of the Peoria County Tuberculosis Sanatorium District. Parents must sign and return forms for student participation.
The Frenchman class holds a bake sale at Dungao's garage on December 17 from 9 30 am to 12 30 pm. Proceeds support class activities and student projects.
Loyal Leaders 4H Club held a November 16 meeting at Town House with forty members, parents and friends. Guest speaker Muagh Rosa county extension agent. demonstrations by Roger and Arien Higgs. talks by Gump Kelly and Mary Kae Kelly. Hugh Ross on selecting members for county and state 4H awards. Ronald Slane distributed premiums for county and state honors with multiple recipients named including Higgs siblings and Catton.
Millbrook Grange schedules a series of events through December including a December 4 birthday and founding, December 9 fish fry at the hall, December 14 Gab Scout Christmas party, December 19 officer installation with a pot luck, and December 20 Grange Christmas party with Gab Scouts. A fish supper fundraiser priced to attract attendees is planned, with notes on membership meetings and turkey dinner remarks.
The Poona County Tuberculosis Association reports $12,199 raised so far from the Christmas Seals drive. The sale opened November 16 and continues through Christmas, urging remaining households to send in donations. Proceeds fund TB detection, prevention, and research efforts.
Bee 20 start 8 o'clock with eight grades in preacotation. Grade school results at Pera Heights show heavyweight 33 30 win and lightweights 31 28 loss. Next game at Yates City on December 12.
Mrs Hazel Wood honored at a dinner at the home of Mrs Bowman on Nov 17. Guests included Mrs Gargel Hayward Voot of Los Angeles who has spent the past two months here, with others such as Mrs Tucker, Mrs Cady, Mrs Johnson, Mrs Clark, Mrs Fitton, Mr Bayes, and Mrs Hayward of Peoria.
Mr and Mrs John Clark and family and Walter Miller attended Thanksgiving dinner at the Murray Miller family residence, joining relatives for the holiday gathering.
A sequence of local gatherings lists numerous residents hosting or visiting relatives and friends for Thanksgiving and weekend visits. Names include Laura Items, Mr Hubert Oakes, the Wycoff family from Ohio, the Burgess family of Princeville, the Webster families of La Fayette, the Ensleys, the McKinney and Farley circles, and visitors from California and Los Angeles. The note also mentions a Royal Neighbor Christmas party at Tom Miller’s home and various Sunday and Friday family visits across multiple towns.
Laura Ws GS members meet at Mrs Kellogg’s home to plan the annual bazaar and cafeteria dinner in the church basement on Saturday December 10 at 1 p.m. Committees are named by Mrs Smery and workers prepare aprons, stage items, children activities, toys and other bazaar items. A candy and baked booth is planned.
Friday moved to Clarence Catton tenant house Mr and Mrs Garley Jones Jr and Ruth Marie. Thanksgiving guests include Milo Stevens Knoxville Rae Shaffer Tom Shaffer Dublin and other relatives. Social visits span Peoria Dublin Knoxville Oneida and surrounding households with multiple Kellogg and Oakes family entries.
The Brimfield American Legion Auxiliary places Give for Gifts coin containers in local stores this weekend to raise funds for Christmas gifts for hospitalized veterans, a yearly program sponsored by the legion.
Elmwood Exchange of General Telephone Company converts to dial operation in early afternoon December 6 1955. Brimfield to Elmwood calls will dial Elmwood numbers after dialing 7 and Elmwood to Brimfield calls on a similar basis. No charge for Brimfield Elmwood service. New directory with Elmwood dial numbers to be placed in malls November 30 1955.
Enid Barnes Churchill widow of George F Churchill dies in Chicago on November 23 after three months of illness. Born April 22 1877 in Brimfield she lived in Chisago before marrying in 1898. Survived by daughter Dorothy Enid Beard son in law L J Beard granddaughter Patricia Ann Beard and sister Alta E Coolidge all of Chicago. Funeral held November 25 at Lain Funeral Home and burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Remembered as a bright active member of the local church and civic life.
Miss Cora Marshall died at Metho dist hospital at 3 pm Wednesday after a morning illness. Born December 17 1869 in Jubiec township she lived in Peoria fifty years with sister Birdie who died 1953. She taught rural schools early then worked as bookkeeper for Nelson and Finch. Survived by sisters Mira Jate McGarrah and Mrs GB Cowperthwaite and brother Harry Marshall plus nieces and nephews. Funeral Friday at First Baptist with Rev Idris Jones. burial in Brimfield cemetery.
The Lutheran Ladies Aid hosts an annual bazaar and bake sale on December 3 in the Legion hall with baked goods dressed chickens fancywork and candy for sale Lunch begins at noon featuring chicken and noodles barbecue sandwiches pie and beverages A brisk week turns wintry with snow flurries and a low of six above Monday morning.
Schedule lists games across November to February for teams Toulon Elmwood Williamsfield Lafayette Corpus Christi Dunlap Princeville Danlap Valley Yates City Manlius Glasford and others. Home and away markers indicate where each game will be played along with tournament periods in December January and February.
