Old Settlers Picnic Highlights from August Entries

The August 17 1888 to August 18 1938 notes show corn wheat butter and egg prices, local stores and businesses advertising, teachers hired for school starting September 10, and community events. Residents include H O Petes Fred Camp Wm Robinson Co and many others with social visits, farm purchases, and picnic reports.

Local Visitors And Guests At Brimfield Area

Mrs Maz Bayes and Rehard of Peoris visit Brimfield relatives. Mr and Mrs Frank Dait stay with Harry Maher. Mrs Albert Claude and daughter of Peoria visited last week and attended the phoro. Mr and Mrs Frank Kesh and Ruh Maher joined Grimfeld visitors at the State Farr Saturday.

Old Settlers Picnic At Brimfield Draws Large Crowd

A pleasant weekend at Brimfield featured an Old Settlers celebration with a home talent program, Elmwood band concert, and ample prizes for pairs and singles. Prizes went to the oldest married couple and siblings. the youngest contestant won a mileage-backed prize. Californians Claire Keeling, Marcella Kingdon, and Billie McDonough competed in long distance draws, while the Legion and Auxiliary aided the event.

Eleanor Moore attends St te Fair and remains at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. William Carter Jr won two blue ribbons in county show. Mr and Mrs Shafer and family visit in Kicking. Memorial services held for Mrs Boward Moore. Donor Mr Charles C Davis of Pasadena funds new front fence for French Grove Cemetery. Cemetery improvements include tree removals, gate changes, and better entrances. Finances for caretaker care are sought from friends.

Community members from Peoria and nearby towns visit relatives and friends including Oscar Foley, Mrs Purcell, the Urwigs, and the Noland family. Death of Lloyd Graham in Wyoming and funeral plans

Lloyd Graham of Wyoming died Sunday afternoon at 5 in Methodist hospital after being admitted at 7:50 that morning. He was a longtime local agent for the C.S. and 9. and recently moved to Wyoming for a new station. Services were held in Wyoming with burial in Dallas City.

Peoria Couple Die In Dwight Motor Crash En Route Home

Ray Heiman of New Lennox was killed and his wife seriously injured when their car collided on the road near Dwight as they returned from the State Fair. Mrs Heiman, Elizabeth Fuchs, is the sole child of Mr and Mrs Thad Fuchs of Peoria. Surviving are their three children Patricia Ann Raymond and Theresa. Rosary will be held at Roland Mortuary in Peoria Thursday evening and the funeral mass is set for Friday at St Mark's church.

Bennie Johnson Hurt After Cow Incident At Farm

Bennie Johnson, 13, son of Mr and Mrs Menno Johnson, is in Methodist Hospital recovering from injuries after a cow collapsed on him last Thursday morning. He was in a pasture when the accident occurred. No visitors are allowed except his parents.

Harding-Medi Family Reunion Held at Glen Oak Park Peoria

The Harding-Medi families held their first reunion on Sunday August 15 in Glen Oak Park Peoria with 135 attendees. Officers elected for the coming year include President Van Harding Brimfield Vice President Mary Sturms Secretary Treasurer Leavell Harding Historian Margaret Houten Maher and committee members Adam Harding Bill Harding Oscar Harding and Wm F Harding. The event featured moving pictures of the crowd. The oldest attendee was Jonah Dirg Sr of Wyoming and the youngest Susace Bailey of Peoria aged two months.
