Brimfield Schools Set to Open With Septembers Start
Brimfield Grade and High Schools will begin on September 1. Registration for high school freshmen and new students is set for Thursday, August 21, at the Commercial Building from 10:00 a.m. until noon, with late registration possible at Superintendent E. L. Dobesly’s home next week. No grade school registration day is planned. High School staff includes Principal E. L. Coberly and teachers Frances Rockwell, Ada Saddler, Norma Efnor, Margaret O Finnicum, Sterling L. Monk. Grade teachers are Mrs Wayie Cox, Mrs Lois Burt, Miss Mina Cramer, and Miss Helen Hart.

W T Cowley marked his eightieth birthday with a Friday August 15 dinner of fried chicken and angel food cake. Hindle Howarth descendants gathered at Sam McClugage home on Farmington road for a traditional picnic. Mrs. Cora Taylor presided with Mrs. Laura Walliker as secretary. J A Hayes opened the program. Mildred Greenfield played piano, Joan Hayes read, Julia Hindle Ruckmick sent notes from Washington, and absent members sent letters read by Velma Hayes Gehring. Breakfast at St Josephs Church Community Building
Breakfast after services brought together St Josephs Church members and Brimfield and Peoria friends at the Community Building. Mrs Mollie Day chaired with Donald Best as toastmaster. Speakers included M Crowley of Peoria, Dr Welch, and the pastor. Music by Mrs McGann with a quartet led by Mrs Houran and St Bernards band conducted by J O Toole.

Forester Warns After Illini Sires Spread Across Terrain
Lewin B Springer superintendent of forestry warns public to avoid campfires and care for cigarettes after dry conditions ignite widespread fires. A blaze swept through 790 acres in Cumberland and grass in Washington county, another burned miles wide in Wayne county. In Mt Erie township residents were urged to defend homes and barns as firefighters battled the Warne county fire.

Infant Renwick Dies in Peoria at Three Weeks
William Edward Renwick the infant son of Mr and Mrs Hanes Renwick died at St Francis Hospital Peoria on August 14 at age three weeks. Burial was from Boland's Mortuary Saturday with interment in Calvary Cemetery Brimfield. Father C J Williams of St Joseph's Church officiated at the grave. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved parents.

Death of Charles A Thayer in Peoria County
Charles A Thayer died at his home on the Southport road last Tuesday night. The funeral was held at the M E church in Edwards Friday afternoon. He was 81 years old and had lived in Peoria county for 20 years. The next meeting is Arnholt Camp R N A on September 3 at 2 30. No meeting August 20 due to Old Settlers.
