R E Cace announces Brimfield town tax books will close May 1. Tax collection will occur at Memiers Store with L B White at Baysiogar implement shop on March 18 and each Saturday afternoon to April 8. White may collect at his home at other times.
Notice is given that on Tuesday April 18 1939 in Brimfield Peoria county Illinois village hall engine room voters will elect three village trustees for four years and two directors for six years. Director John C Watson of the Illinois Agricultural Association cites a 20 year old system and explains wages and salaries and interest on stocks are not taxed locally, forcing a large share of tax burden onto labor and farm income.

College minded seniors from eight schools will visit Bradley College campus Friday April 14 for the seventh annual Bradley college conference. The event features Dr James B Thomas president of the Chrysler Institute of Engineering in Detroit Michigan speaking on New Frontiers for Smart People and sectional meetings explaining Bradley vocations. The late afternoon program includes The Night of January 16th by the Bradley dramatic department and a Bradley versus Wisconsin baseball game.
Laura St ms and Fred Steinman spent Saturday in Galesburg. Don Webster was elected school director last Saturday night. Victor King and Tom Miller were business callers in Galesburg Saturday. Mrs Fred Jones visited her mother Mrs Lilly Tucker in Elmwood last week. J H Whittaker and family spent the weekend with Bert Bill near Sheffield. Easter visitors included Shannon Powers Chester Kusts and David Wycoff of Campaign. Dorothy Kuntz Frank Read of Peoria stayed with Dan Kunte group for Easter. Mrs Homer Symmonds Mrs John Peirson and Cecil Miller were Galesburg callers last week. Coaries Carter of West Jersey visited his daughter and family. Carter had just returned from a wait in California. Mr Carter and Mary Sehbyler and baby with family from Minnesota visited Mrs Mary Miller and relatives. Schuyler and baby stayed longer.
A new small pox case emerged in Millbrook township this week after the patient voted in Laura and visited a restaurant there on April 4. State health officer Dr Horwitz and County Nurse Geren Elliot urged all residents not yet recently vaccinated to get immunized to curb the spread. Easter gatherings are noted with local families visiting Peoria and St Francis hospital reports show improving conditions for a patient.
Peoria County Council at the American Legion will meet Wednesday April 19 in the Palace of Peoria Post No. 2 at Spa. Tisdell Post hosts planning for the annual picnic and location vote. Posts plan a drive to Bloomington on April 23 for the Annual Air Blanc Round Up. Adolph Ganterbach will be in charge. all members welcome for entertainment and refreshments.
Miss May Hathaway a Brimfield area pioneer and daughter of Edwin Bradford died April 4 1939 in Yates City at age 80 after a life of service. She cared for relatives and worked as a dressmaker in Brimfield and later with the Elliott family in Paragould Arkansas before moving to Yates City. Survived by Mae Edwin Harold Julia and many nieces nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held at the Yates City Methodist Church with Reverends Leonard and Hall officiating. Interment was in Brimfield Cemetery. Pallbearers included five nephews.
Saturday school elections produced few votes with fifty seven ballots in the high school box. Voters re elected Dr. R. B. Roberts as president and C. M Travis and Ira Martin as board members. In the grade school race Rudolph Savage was re elected director with eight and two votes.
Senior Senator from Illinois James Hamilton Lewis dies suddenly from coronary thrombosis while en route to Washington. He collapsed and was pronounced dead in a Washington hospital after serving as Democratic whip and guiding party votes in the Senate. Nearby mentions include Mr and Mrs Ray Scaria of Peoria and Mr and Mrs Wm Hick of Parmington visiting Rudolph Savage family.
