Bridgetown Trotting Club protests WATA ruling

Bridgetown Trotting Club incensed at WATA decision to cancel the December 18 meeting over insufficient nominations. Secretary C H Briggs says 19 horses were acceptable previously and warns of financial loss and public inconvenience. Delegates condemn the action and call for clarity on entry requirements.

Junior Farmers hold Xmas dinner in Bridgetown hall

Over 100 members from Bridgetown Boyup Brook Balingup and Middlesex clubs attended a Bridgetown Xmas dinner in the Town Hall on Tuesday night. R W Bolton received a presentation from the gathering in recognition of his untiring work as club secretary. Games ran from 8 to 10 pm then a sit down dinner 10 to 11 followed by dancing. Special guest was State Organiser G Young accompanied by Mrs Young.

Freyberg Visits Nelson House in Bridgetown Reception

Sir Bernard Freyberg V C and Lady Freyberg attend a Nelson House reception with more than 40 guests including Road Board chairman Malcolm F Scott and R W Brownlie. The event features no speeches, tea served by Mrs Brierley staff, and a cordial greeting from Sir Henry Willcox. Afterward the party proceeds to Bunbury.

Hospital Board appoints new secretary in Bridgetown

Former road board secretary Mr C. V. Draper was named secretary of the Bridgetown Hospital Board at Tuesday night's meeting. Other applicants included T. C. Scott P. R. Salvair H. M. Whittell F. Foster R. W. Scott and N. Crockett. Board chairman L. R. Goodridge and members praised retiring secretary J. G. Awcock for his excellent service.

Bridgetown Road Board Snoop Slates Self-Pity Letter

Mr Nelson accuses the Bridgetown Road Board of using public meetings to manipulate ratepayers and mocks the board’s response. He complains about how the board calls meetings and about a press echo, arguing voters deserve better and noting a lingering tension over how public affairs are treated.

Newspaper Price Increase Notice for 1949

From 18 January 1949 the paper costs 3d per issue and 16 per year post free. The increase covers higher production costs including the 40 hour week wage rises and newsprint price hikes since 1939. Association seeks reader cooperation to maintain service and coverage. J F OCKERBY Secretary.
