Police assign two guards to the Brooklawn residence of Dwight D. Wheeler, president of the Acme Shear Company, fearing revenge after seven men were sentenced in Criminal Superior Court to 15 years on two charges each.
Norwalk authorities and Sheriff Pease mobilize six deputies after a brown paper letter warns that Reds Section 2 will blow up the state armory the banks and other sites at 1 o'clock tomorrow. Police treat it as a hoax but guardians are sworn in and guards assigned at key locations. The missive cites recent fires as incendiary acts and mentions South Norwalk and Hartford targets. The letter was found in a post box near the South Norwalk railroad station.
In New York, Sept. 24, Mrs. Alice Wheaton Horda sues in the Supreme Court to compel Wincess Horda to reveal the name of a 3 year old son she says is not hers. She seeks birth record corrections and an injunction preventing the husband from claiming she is the mother. Mia Koda states she has no children by Borda after marrying him following the death of her former husband Colonel Clarrit A. Wheaton. The child was born in New York and the attending physician noted Mrs Borda as mother. He filed a birth certificate to that effect, she claims. Mrs Borda's first husband was William Sprasue Jr., son of a former Rhode Island senator. he died in 1890.
The grand jury is expected to be convened soon to investigate the Nott murder involving Elwood Wade John Johnston and Mrs Nott and to consider other manslaughter cases arising from automobile accidents as principal business.
Hiwood Salisbury and Donald Link of New York City and West Haven are named as incorporators of the Ingersoll Engineering & Construction Company with $200,000 authorized capital. One half is paid in cash and the other half in noncash property. The firm plans a leisure and amusement park on Steeplechase Island.
The notice requires written identification from individuals and states it must be delivered to or mailed to the Times Office. It mentions a payment to the first person providing identification under the rules.
Andrew Lesko wins a dollar for correctly identifying the profile of W. 58 Shepard, manager of 8. B. Thing & Company. The answer came at 10 o clock this morning as many attempts were received, many wrong due to resemblance to other Bridgeporters. M. J. O'Reilly erred after nine tries.
Frank J. Devlin of Shelton testifies as the trial for manslaughter proceeds in superior court with many witnesses called. The case is expected to go to the jury on Monday and Devlin was the principal witness during the forenoon session.
Coroner J J Phelan investigates the death of Olive Donovan of Bantam who died at Bridgeport Hospital on September 17 from wounds linked to a personal safety issue. Earl Cottrell of 52 Fremont Street is held on bail for aiding the act that caused her death.
Charleston reports a reign of terror and lawlessness in the Williamson and Pocahontas coal fields. Gun attacks remain confined to backcountry areas with risk of widening if United States troops are removed. Authorities fear crime would surge without soldiers in the district.
