Spy Captain Accused of Embezzlement and Desertion
John Willers former captain of Company I 8th Infantry was arrested for embezzling 6000 dollars from his unit and deserting fifteen days after the Armistice. He told intelligence officers at Governor’s Island a dramatic spy tale claiming service for Germany but later recanted admitting the tale was a myth and will face a court martial. He was identified in a New York elevator by a former lieutenant.

Thirty New Men On Police Force
Bridgeport may add 30 police officers next year if the budget approved by the Board of Police Commissioners is passed by the Board of Apportionment. The increase would cost about $54,000 in salaries, with last year’s spending at $643,745 and current staff 19 below the ordinance total. Three budget items were cut including 5000 for a new signal system 4000 for badges signs and caps and rent for the railroad lot at Wall Street.
