Brokers Victims of Clever Swindle With Fake Bonds
New York September 25 A Wall Street swindle exposed as district attorney investigators reveal an attempt to imitate the 1 060 seven percent bonds of the Steel and Tube Company of America. About 250 to 500 imitations circulated among banks and brokers. The bonds are not forgeries but altered securities with added word Worth inserted before America. The signature Frank Kellogg on the bogus bonds bears no resemblance to any legitimate signing on Steel and Tube bonds. Between 259 and 600 of these auditable bonds are known to have circulated in financial circles.
