No Reduction in War Revenue Bill Is Contemplated

Washington, Sept. 24. The Senate Finance Committee plans no substantial cut in the 8,000,000,000 war revenue bill. Chairman Simmons said there is little opposition to raising by taxation one third of the 24,000,000,000 needed this fiscal year. Increased army expenditures have shifted sentiment toward the large tax levy. Deciding on new or higher tax sources to cover a potential prohibition-driven deficit remains undecided. Tomorrow the committee will study the income tax rates, with the House plan 12 percent but six percent on the first 4,000.
