London reports say MacSwiney’s condition varies from weak to regular as officials deny nourishment. The Lord Mayor’s hunger strike continues with nurses and physicians claimed to be denying any food and government role emphasized to avoid undermining earlier starvation effects.
Reports by two men, one claiming to have seen the so called death wagon near the assay office at 10:30 a.m. before the blast, and another who saw three men fleeing moments earlier, drive new leads in the investigation of the disaster. The district attorney indicated Edwin Fischer has little direct knowledge of the case after eight hours of questioning. A hoax warning to destroy the customs house was deemed not credible. Emer W. Kehrer was identified as the driver of the wagon. Alexander Brailovsky, a Russian journalist, was released after being held on a technical charge.
Senator Harding warned that Article 10 of the League Covenant contains ambiguities and could lead to foreign war. He argued it obligates nations to preserve independence and integrity, and criticized Wilson for subordinating constitutional rights to international promises. Washington officials investigate a mysterious warning predicting bomb outrages in Washington Metra Cleveland and Pittsburgh. The letter claims American anarchists sent the threats and mentions New York Detroit Cleveland and Pittsburgh as targets. It was mailed from Washington and received after Sunday, written with lead pencil on rough paper.
In Rome on September 20 the owner of seized Italian factories and the workers have negotiated an agreement. They appointed a 12 member committee to detail their plan before the government.
Two Bridgeport men face probable murder and robbery charges and are held without bail in New Haven County Jail for a sensational Ansonia saloon holdup. In a gun duel with pedestrians and police after fleeing, the suspects matched descriptions of two armed highwaymen linked to two Bridgeport robberies. The men named are James Merell aged 30 of 1701 Ave and Walter Mort aged 41 of 280 State Street. The Ansonia saloonkeeper Valente Landa was pistol whipped and patrons robbed as Ford and Kane from Providence fled after cutting wires to prevent an alarm. One patron from Terre Haute was robbed of $1.17 before the gunmen fled. Continued on Page Two.
Federal investigators widen campaign finance scrutiny as the General Committee plans to question Eastern leaders and adjourn till after the election. Chairman Kenyon said the probe aims to close loose ends from the Carter hearings and will include subpoenas for key liquor interests and political figures, with witnesses including George Carroll of the National Retail Liquor Dealers Association in America and New Jersey party chairmen.
A Disney-like group seeks new bus routes and petitions the board to amend the ordinance governing bus traffic. The list includes moves from Beardsley Park to Huntington road and multiple streets in city bounds. One person requested the return of liners for workers and ride access.

At the Gwetteh Cletriet Democratic meeting last night in Lavery Valley Union events the candidacy of Alderman Charles Fresman was endorsed.
In a power shuffle by Major Wilson appointing an advisory RAM Mmuumér committee, the GOP factions in the city reveal a splinter lineup. Key names include Wilson, Leonard, Seeley, Northey, Crowther, Smith, Chew, Lyons, Maloney, Havens, Cunningham, Delaney, Martin, O Connell, Dawe, Primrose, Squires, Seecy, Blackham, Connor, Doolan and others as the new Town Committee factions. The proclamation follows the Republican Town Chairman John A Jeonard's recent appointments.
Republican leaders John A Leonard and county official Frank J Ballard deny seeking office and accuse Mayor Wilson of trying to embarrass the administration. Leonard says the party will oppose the mayor in next year’s municipal campaign while Wilson claims Leonard and Ballard backed Democrats last year. The dispute centers on appointment of a town committee and alleged anti administration tactics.
The Tenth District Republican club committee of three said to meet Republican Town Chairman John A Leonard to discuss the new town committee but canceled the meeting. Leonard was informed by telephone shortly after six oclock that the committee would not meet with him. No reason was given for the cancellation.
Norwalk September 20 special report Judge Nehemiah Candee was unanimously nominated as the Republican candidate for senator from the 28th district at the district convention held tonight in the Hotel Clifford venue.
The Park Board with the council leased Steeplechase Island to Ingersoll Engineering and Construction of New Raven for ten years at 215900 total rent. The company will invest about 200000 to develop the site into a moral, orderly amusement park with walks, lawns, trees, and attractions, accessible by train ferry from Seaview. Steeplechase Island, 40 acres, was bought in 1919 for 229000. bonds issued to cover the purchase.
State lawmakers reconvene at 11 am for a broad revision of election machinery and to ratify the national suffrage amendment at a 12 noon session. Connecticut may curb jitney buses while parties plan to push immediate enrollment for newly completed voter applications. Local officials Lounsbury Winton Knapp and five legislators attend to study new laws affecting their districts.
In Albany New York on September 20 Republican Oliver Nelson Ransom introduced a resolution in the Assembly for an extraordinary session to exclude the five Socialists re-elected last Thursday from filling seats, claiming their expulsion in April caused vacancy. The resolution was referred to the judiciary committee.
